I’ve just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant. Can I continue to run?

Congratulations! If you have been running fairly regularly pre-pregnancy then you can certainly continue to do so, providing there are no medical complications with the pregnancy. Some women are able to run throughout their pregnancy, right up until a few days before giving birth, whereas others will find they become too uncomfortable much earlier.

There is a growing body of evidence to show that exercise during pregnancy is good for both mum and baby. You will however need to listen to your body and monitor the intensity of your runs a little more carefully. Easy and steady efforts are fine but it’s not advisable to push yourself really hard. You have to be a little careful not to overheat and you may also want to avoid training on uneven ground where the chance of falling is increased.
