A Weight Loss Project That Got Seriously Out Of...

I started running early in 2013 to lose some weight. As a South-East London boy (exiled on the South Coast) and educated in the great city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, I've now ticked off my two initial targets, the London Marathon and the Great North Run, and in doing so around £7000 has been raised for children's cancer support charity CLIC Sargent. But Keith's Marathon Dream lives on and the next target is Paris 2015. And beyond that hopefully Ride London and perhaps even half an iron man (if I can be persuaded - hmmm - a Plastic Man maybe) Keith

There Are Places I'll Remembe...

You've probably noticed my predilection (crikey - what sort of a word is that!) for using song titles and lyrics for blog posts. But what could I possibly use today? If I had to choose one act to provide the soundtrack to my life, it would surely be The...

The Berlin Marathon Blog Diar...

Apologies - I have been keeping a blogging diary these last few days - but haven't found the time to post here - so let's go for overkill, with four entries for the price of one!!! Sat Sept 24th - All Night Long ... Ah yes – my brief summing up of wikip...

First We Take Manhattan ...

It's a long time since I blogged. Now as I embark on perhaps the maddest ten days of my life to date, maybe we should make a bit more of an effort – ten days in which I hope to run two marathons and complete some serious (and very special) sightseeing. ...

(North Dorset) Village People

How things have moved on! Last year this was never on the radar – but it is a recurring theme throughout this blog that I am perpetually vulnerable to the power of positive suggestion, particularly from people like Kim – and Mel – and also (it turns out...

Manchester Marathon ... You A...

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I only run big city marathons on sunny days. But we know too that it always rains in Manchester. Something had to give. It was rainy on Saturday night. I know where my money lies. Sunday April 10th 2015. I set...

Brass In Pocket ...

Well just a quick update. Friday – the day I plan to travel to Manchester. Everything is incredibly well organised ;-) Not a spot of packing done yet – but we buckle down, and it's soon done. As some will know I am particularly susceptible to the power ...

Beside The Seaside ... Beside...

In the words of the great Mr Ned Flanders okely dokely – so where are we? Less than a week and I will be heading up the A354 and from there the A37, M5 and onwards up the M6 to Manchester. Easter was great with my elder daughter returning home for a cou...

Once More Onto The Beach Dear...

At long last – just two weeks to go until Manchester, and back to semi-proper blogging. Last week I descibed this as my "Dementia Marathon". This is my third big spring marathon. The last two have taken over my life. Back in November, it seemed that thi...

The Dementia Marathon

It has been a long time since I posted. One or two people have even asked when the next post would be, which is gratifying :-) With Manchester just three weeks away I really should be talking about all my training – or about last Sunday's Grizzly – "Gri...
And so we come to the final address from the official UK Valencia Marathon blogger … Running Has Changed My Life – Discuss A number of people have said that. But it is something I’ve always shied away from. I’ve always associated it with redemption and...

Y Viva España

Apologies - been away for far too long. I used to post everything here and also to my website. And then one day I was short on time and sort of got out of the habit. I know you've been busy here. For me chapter and verse is available in the blog. But fo...

Another Brick In The Wall

Bricking It Every cloud has a silver lining they. The great irony was that two Wednesday's back, the day that I "hit the (brick) wall", was also the day that I took delivery of my new exercise bike. As I left work that Wednesday I told the chaps I was o...

Get Down Tonight

Well I promised something of a magical mystery tour. I noted that this journey has taken me to places I never thought I'd go to. And now another. To date this has largely been a triumphant march through time and space, but this week something of a knock...

The Valencia Marathon 2015 (AKA El Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso)!   The Magical Mystery Tour Little did I know quite where it would lead me when I started to run back in 2013. To start with the path rapidly split into three, broadly parallel road...

Tomorrow Comes ...

I promise, the final allusion to Les Miserables. Why do I do this? Is this quality writing? Or is it total drivel? And (whichever it is) is there anyone out there that actually wants to read it? And do I care? It started simply as an appendage of my fun...

... But There's Not Much There!

I don't know about anyone else but sometimes my blog planning is a bit like a military campaign. This week was supposed to be a "State Of The Nation" address following on from my spring marathon season running and spectating experiences. Instead I find ...

Beyond The Barricade

Two Nice Things Happen To Me On The Way To The London Marathon A lovely weekend in London, but this time as a supporter. Saturday morning and another bout or parkrun tourism. This week's destination was the Richmond parkrun. As we waited for the pre-run...

Marathon de Paris - Stars ......

Scarce To Be Counted ... A year ago I wrote "And now the curtain comes down on Keith’s Marathon Dream ... ". But had you read the small print of the contract you would have known that this wasn't strictly true. You would have seen that it clearly stated...

These (26 And a Bit) Foolish ...

"It's all about the run stupid!" No serious inspirational stuff from me. If you want serious motivational stuff click here or here. These are the ones that I really did cut out and keep and take up to London with me last year. But this is my run, and th...

Taperback Writer

Just a quick update with just over a week 'til Paris. Despite achieving a PB at the recent Wemouth Half Marathon, it somehow did not feel like a satisfying run. It was all something of a struggle, and ultimately I felt I could have run faster had I been...

It's All About The Run Stupid

I've harped on enough about the differences between last year's marathon and this year's marathon. Last year's was almost Damascene. Something of a life changer. The most intensive ten months of my life. Huge pressure. Boldly going where no me had gone ...

19 Days 12 Hours 26 Minutes A...

Where do the weeks go? Less than three weeks to Paris now! The French skiing trip seems so long ago now. Have to say I was rather more blasé about skiing this year than last year. But I survived the bumps, the alcohol, the impromptu game of charades, th...

Altitude Training

(this was the entry that would have been posted, WiFi permitting last week) 12 March, Oz en Oisans, Isère, France and (crikey) just a month and a day 'til the Marathon de Paris. Time for (hopefully) just a quick post Grizzly update from the Land of Oz. ...

The Grizzly 2015 - 20 Miles O...

Dash To DeliriumOften runs have a sting in the tail. This one pokes you in the eyes right from the start. For no reason other than pure spite on the part of the organisers, we start off by running the first km along the shingle beach IN THE WRONG DIRECT...
