Aprils Fool

In April 2018, I, along with some fellow crazies, managed to complete the Virgin Money London Marathon... the hottest, nastiest London Marathon on record I hasten to add. Like many of the runners that day, I’d chosen the official charity of the Year – Teenage Cancer Trust.

Little did I know what that would entail! In the build up to the big day the support, the information, the fundraising help and advice, the Facebook Support Group ( #TeamLegend – You know how you are!) were immense.

What really hit home however, was finding out more about the incredible work that the TCT do. From the terrifying statistic of 7 young people between 13 and 24 being diagnosed with cancer A DAY, to the amazing staff working on their specialists units and the amazing charity events they run with international stars of music and comedy. Seeing the work first hand at the unit at UCLH, meeting one of the amazing nurses who was also running VMLM, and watching the heart rending video of the work they do (get your hankies ready – here is the link Youth Co-Ordinators

So, post London, and my ‘I could have done better’ mentality, I was determined to improve both my time and raise more funds... and so here it is my ‘Aprils Fool'

In April 2019, there are 4 Sundays.. and on 3 of those Sundays, there are some rather big marathons happening. After blagging a place at the Asics Manchester Marathon (7th April), and taking up a Charity place for the Brighton Marathon (14th April)... I thought..stupidly...why not run one every week of April – culminating in London on the 28th... I know... Madness right!!

So here I am, with 2 out of 4 places confirmed, absolutely cacking it! In 2 weeks or so, I should find out if I get a Ballot place for London and this madness is really off to the races!

I'll need to dust off my running trainers, check on all my gadgets n gizmos aplenty, and get my post marathon, done no real running since May backside back out on the road.

If I’m not successful in getting a London spot, my plan is to then find a substitute (I think there is a London Reject race on the same day) and then spend my Easter weekend running somewhere – that’ll please the family no end!

So – how can you help? It’s going to take a whole bunch of effort, time and miles to get me through this, but as long as I know that I’m raising a bucket load of money for these guys, that will give me the motivation on those cold Tuesday mornings/Sunday afternoon runs in the snow – so get you cards out, fire up your Online Banking – and get donating.. Please!!!
