London Marathon 2017

I am a 51 year old Londoner and ran my first London marathon in 2016. It was a fantastic experience. I blogged a bit about it here. And then I entered the ballot for 2017 and the next thing I know I won a place. So I am off again, running the streets of London. Hoping to share some of the journey here.

New Years Revolution

What happens when you run the London Marathon in April and you then injure your ankle in May and don't run for the rest of the year? You get as fat as a cat 🐱  And you long to be a runner again. I have seen the same man run pass my window in the rai...

My London Marathon

a sneaky 20 miler

Hi realbuzzers, it has been an inspiration to read the accounts of historic deeds in Manchester and no doubt everyone who is running Brighton in the morning is tucked up in bed and not on their third glass of Sauvignon Blanc as I am. its only two weeks ...

It's been a month since my last post. I was on course doing well. But events happen. Sometimes sad. You get dereailed. And then you need to pick up again. so the second week of February came and my lovely kind mother in law was at the end of her life. W...

Hello fellow buzzers, We are two weeks into this new year and the blank page that I faced on January 1st now needs some filling. in my last post I asked you to be my judge and jury and to keep me from the thing that we shall not speak of........ that is...

Happy New Year - no humans ha...

Happy New Year folks. So we have reached 1/1/2017, a new date in human history. No humans have been here before.  It is a blank page. What amazing feats will be achieved in 2017? Me finishing the London Marathon for a second time will be one of them.  W...

Christmas has come early

My partner shouted up the stairs "you've got a ballot place in the 2017 London marathon". Bleary eyed and hungover I wondered how he knew. No one had phoned and he doesn't hack into my emails yet. The answer was clear when he walked into the room with t...

Withdrawal symptoms.

An amazing day

Well all great things must come to an end. And what an end it was. My first London Marathon was a day I will never forget. i have to confess to being slightly naughty the night before. I know you are supposed to get an early night and turn down all soci...

a little excited

One day to go. Well in fact one half day to go. I am feeling excited, a little scared, quite a bit under trained, and wish I had given up eating all the pies. This morning we had our trip to the Expo. It was like visiting the motorway services on the M1...

A-Z marathon mantras

I can't recall when I had my brain wave but one day I realised that there were 26 letters in the alphabet.  And then I realised there were 26 miles in a marathon. And then I thought why not have a one word mantra for each mile from each letter of the al...

Gonna Fly Now

I can't believe it is only a week away now. i have turned into a marathon obsessive. i found myself yesterday watching the entire London Marathon broadcast  from last year on You Tube - and I did so in bed before I went to work. And then I found the tra...

One more long run for the road?

HooRay. I have done a 20 miler (thank you The Race Organiser at Dorney Lake) and my training programme says I am now in the land of taper and I will not run that far again until marathon day. But I have a little voice at the back of my head that says th...

Easter bunny bounce back

After last week's existential questioning of my ability to run with a cold I am pleased to report that the bunny has bounced back this Easter weekend. With the supportive posts from last week (thank you) ringing in my ears I managed to do that long run ...

To run or not to run - that i...

It was going so well. I was uptodate with the training plan. I went to Portugal at half term and did some great runs along the sea front. And then disaster struck. I got a bad cold. I blame it on a pool full of children and the Portuguese Rose. I was in...

Wet January over

Normally in January I go Dry and drink no alcohol. This January I have other things on my mind like training for the London Marathon so I need to focus on one thing only and have no time for banning beers from my life. Are you not impressed by my dedica...

December almost gone

It has been a mixed month running wise. I decided that December would be a month for some base training before the 16 week training programme for the big day kicks in from January 1st. i managed to run 3 times a week for the first couple of weeks of Dec...

november is kind

November is so far kind to me. Have managed to train more than I thought. The last long run was down the canal to Victoria Park and around the park and back to Angel. Can't beat the canal apart from when the militant cyclists come by.  getting in a few ...

My first run

Today I started my training for the London Marathon 2016. I ran 6 miles. it was good. i ended it with a flat white and a marmite bagel. Is that allowed? I have never run the London Marathon before. is it wise? i am going to be raising money for The Conn...
