Fatman to Ironman

What makes a man decide to take part in a Triathlon?

For me, it began when I met a guy at PGL where I was working for the summer. He was a triathlete and I was imspired to do them too. But life, work and procrastination meant I never did. Until Now!

20 years later I have proved I can run a marathon and the dream of Triathlon has returned. In fact, it's now a dream of the ultimate - an Ironman!

This blog will document my journey from a poor over weight runner to triathlete to ironman.

Follow me on the journey.

Let's call this Week 1..........

For the sake of argument, let's just forget about the last 3 and a bit months and start fresh. It all went a bit off the rails after the last Tri of the season and then Christmas hit and the focus changed to keeping a growing online retail business from...

Hever Olympic & Season Review

Yesteday (28th September) was my 43 birthday. Let's not dwell on that too long. Rather than spending it eating cake, I'd entered my first olympic distance triathlon at Hever Castle (http://www.castletriathlonseries.co.uk/the-series/hever-castle/). Part ...

Remembrance of why this journ...

I made a fairly bold announcement on Sunday evening via facebook. That next August I'd be racing in this event:  http://www.openadventure.com/c2c/ The events leading up to this proclamation are as follows: 1. A friend on facebook asked for advice on get...

London Triathlon

With a start time of 4.30 I was feeling a tad odd on Saturday morning. Normally I'm at races that start, for me, a bit earlier! I didn't know what to do with myself, so I had a leisurely breakfast and jumped in the car to head into the office and grab m...

2 weeks to go!

It's been a while - it's been a busy summer so far. With a couple fo weeks to go to London I'm finding the longer training weeks a little hard to fit around life - it's not the time - I can make that if I plan. The planning is the thing that isn't compl...

Post race week training

I know it was only a sprint Triathlon and to most who took part it would be training as normal in the week following, but typically for me, post race is a time to recover from the exertions. Which is why I felt amazed on Sunday when waking after a good ...

Race Report: Blenheim Tri

So, I've tried posting twice before the event and those disappeared, so I hope this goes through / appears. Summary of those missing posts: Had entry to Blenheim that I decided not to use, withdrew. Training going well, unwithdrew hoping a)wetsuit would...

Good weeks / Bad Weeks

It has been a couple of weeks since I updated. There have been some positives: 1. Those weeks have been filled with more physical activity than the weeks of the last few months / year. 2. I've been feeling at times, better about my health and energy has...

A week in training

It's been a couple of weeks since the last update. I'm writing this just after 8.00am as a bowl of porredge cools beside me. The day looks to be shaping up to be delightful - I've already tasted it from the saddle having completed my planned ride alread...

That was a win!

Yesterday was a good day. The office is cleared of junk and sugary sweets - the warehouse are very happy. Food for the day was controlled and healthy - plenty of fruit and a delightful homemade tomato soup for dinner. The left overs are here for lunch t...

The road to 2015

London Marathon weekend has had a new meaning for me since I took part in my first one a few years ago. Having, for many years sat in front of the television watching the inspiring coverage and thinking it was impossible for someone like me to do it, I ...

First impressions of duel spo...

Last week was week 1 of VLM training. I did a 2 mile run on Saturday on the snow at the local country park. Was amazing running - nice on the knees. Missed Sundays planned due to family commtiment. Earlier in the week I had my first swimming coaching se...
