Vegetarian adventures in low FODMAP land

In the early days of 2016 I started the low FODMAP elimination diet to try and get my IBS under control. I have an app but the diary function in it is hugely frustrating and not very user friendly. So I have decided to blog my eating and symptoms here for my own record keeping. If anyone reads it, I hope it's not too graphic!

Reintroduction, or not....

Eat like a saint, yes mostly-ish, big food shop, no. The intentions of the last post didn't quite work out. Drove home last Sunday, got to Uig, waited, waited, ferry cancelled! So a night on Skye it was. Finally got home Monday lunchtime, having had an ...

The last week, and the dietician

You'd think, being at home, it would be easier to keep this up to date. But it was a pretty manic week all things considered. Suffice to say, food wise, it was a pretty straightforward week lowFODMAP eating. I managed to go back to decent breakfasts, th...

Days 26 and 27 - Thursday 11t...

Thursday was pretty normal, Aerobics first thing and a walk with the dogs. We were a wee bit later going out, it was almost 7.10 and it's now nearly light. I'm still using the headtorch, but it's off within 10 minutes. Wow! So nice to see light that ear...

Days 23 to 25 - Monday to Wed...

Monday morning, Glasgow Airport, decided against eating. On the flight you get a nice wee carton of juice and an oat bar if you're lucky, so I took my chances with that. The Stoats bars do have honey in them, but only 0.7% so I took the risk. I love the...

Days 18 - 22, to Sunday 7th Feb

Yikes! Where did the week go. Ok, this will be a run through of very brief proportions! Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th I was making do with whatever was around. Breakfast I had a couple of the fruit bars and some redbush. Probably not much actual 'food'...

Day 17 - Tuesday 2nd Feb

The weather was still bad, but settling, so the day began with aerobics as usual. The wind was too high & it was raining hard, so I stayed home until the kids were going to school and ran them in. We've a 100m road to the bus pickup point, which is ...

Days 14-16 Saturday, Sunday, ...

Well doesn't time fly when you're trying to keep your possessions anchored to the ground! Storm Gertrude occupied Friday, Saturday turned out to still be rather breezy (30-40mph), so no going anywhere. I think I actually spent most of the morning trying...

Day 13 - Friday 29th

The day didn't begin quite as I'd planned. The weather was so bad during the night that hubby couldnt sleep, so he decamped to the living room with a sleeping bag and was still in there at 6.30 when I got up. So no morning aerobics. However, because of ...

Day 11 and 12 - Wednesday 27t...

I know Thursday isn't over yet, but its as good as done :) Wednesday morning I was still exhausted from the previous day, so no exercise, just walking the dogs. I planned to eat breakfast at work as usual, but still wasnt entirely certain how my stomach...

Day 10 - Tuesday 26th Home ag...

Are you as exhausted as I am yet? We set off for Uig at 10am, with the update due at 10.30am. There's a lot of area without mobile signal between home and Inverness, so I had youngest daughter on signal watch so we could phone home and check the status....

Days 8 and 9 - Sunday 24th an...

So Sunday started with an upset stomach. It eased after a wee while, so once the kids were up I decided to see if I could find some breakfast. Scrambled eggs aren't strictly in keeping with my lowFODMAP because I've got the added lactose exclusion, but ...

Day 7 - Saturday 23rd (long)

Well wasn't yesterday fun! So, went to bed Friday, knowing that the next update on the ferries would be 8.30am, but also that there wouldn't be any sailing before noon. Now you might want to skip this bit.... The reason I was heading to Aberdeen on Frid...

Day 5 and 6 so far - Thursday...

Blogging what I ate more than 24 hours after I ate it is proving challenging, I'm struggling to remember what I ate yesterday already! So I think breakfast was rice puffs, so I must have put sultanas in again, but I really have no recollection! As yeste...

Day 3 and 4 - Tuesday 19th an...

A little late tonight, so a joint post for Tuesday and Wednesday... Tuesday started badly. I got up ready to do my aerobics to discover that the Xbox wasn't by the tv. Youngest son had taken it upstairs the night before, along with the only hdmi cable, ...

Day 2 - Monday 18th

Monday was a rest day, so no aerobics today, just the usual dog walk. This meant that I was actually late doing everything and didn't get back from walking the dogs until 7.40, resulting in rushing around and not planning anything for breakfast. Breakfa...

Official Day 1 - Sunday 17th

Firstly, thanks to those who commented on my initial post, it's really encouraging to have support and hopefully my wittering a might help someone else get through  too. Sunday went like this... Up 8am (that felt lazy!) and did aerobics dvd to try and l...

Not a new year's resolution

On December 17th I met with a dietician trained in the low FODMAP diet. Having had the consutlation, been sent the booklets and downloaded the app, I'm now about 10 days in to the diet. I went back to work on January 5th and that was day 2. It feels a b...
