London's Loss? Stroke Man does Edinburgh 2008

The FLM rejection arrived on Monday 26th November, was I demotivated? I was signed up for Edinburgh 2008 before the end of the day! I ran the 2007 FLM in 4.28, raising £5,000 for Stroke Charities and enjoyed every minute. I want sub 4 hours in Scotland.

I took up running in March 2005 after a June 2004 Stroke which left me unable to walk for several days never mind run. At 42 with 3 young kids, it was a big wake up call! I was fortunate, I made a 99.9% recovery, not everyone is so lucky.  Don't waste your second chance?

I hope I make as many friends running Edinburgh 2008 as I did London 2007. Wish me luck, The Strokeman is back!

Around the 15th February an Achilles injury appeared and 3 weeks later I broke down completely. It has ruined my training! I have kept myself fit in the gym with long lonely sessions and finally started running again on 9th April. The injury has'nt gone away but I hope to "manage" it and get around the course - the finish time will be reassessed accordingly!!

Does realbuzz know I am not R...

When I fired up my e-mail at work this morning, not one blog update and when I thought about it, not one update for a few days? So sorry I am commenting even less than usual. Either realbuzz is playing up again or someone's told them I havn't run...

Return to normality?

Not yet. I had an extra day off work on Tuesday (thankfully) and took it easy and drank tea all day. Wednesday back to work (Bah humbug), I did go to the gym for a very easy stretch, bike, rower, x-trainer and sauna session...

Oh such a perfect day

Is that how the song goes? It should be a perfect weekend really. The bare facts of my perfect weekend: Saturday: meet Janis Brown, Kim Cotton & Kevin Dargue for the first time at the expo and meet Colleen Rehbein again. ...

Home from Edinburgh

Got back about 6.45 tonight and am absolutely knackered....and delighted. Proper blog tomorrow. 4.35.25 is 7 minutes slower than London 07, but considering the injury I have been carrying and its effect on my training, is the finest t...

I will be at the start........

but the finish? Not so sure! I walked Katie to school today to pick up Lauren, about half mile round trip and felt the achilles all the way! Two lots of ultrasound, acupuncture, Ibruprofin, massage, ice pack, oh you name it, I have do...

Going through the motions

Its differcult at the moment because I should be quite excitedly nervous but I am not, because obviously I don't even know if I will actually start on Sunday and this run/walk/crawl will happen. But I am going through the motions. ...

Forgive the following self indulgant blog, it sometimes helps a bit to get things off your chest? If I was'nt a grown man I would cry. If I had ruptured my achilles all those weeks ago, the job would be done, I wouldn't be walking nev...

In despair

The achilles trouble is back with a vengence I'm afraid. After Fridays treadmill 4 miles I was still having grief by Sunday so I abandoned my last 10 mile road run  (the supposed confidence booster before the big day) and opted for 90 minutes gym...

Duchess in Hull

I have watched 15 minutes and cannot take anymore!! From the age of 5 or 6 I grew up around 3 miles from where this programme was located. The difference in "Estates" means it might as well have been 200-300 miles. I am wo...

Not having a good week runnin...

After Sundays 15 mile road run, my achilles has been grumbling all week. I gave Tuesdays planned 3 miler a miss before doing 3 treadmill miles on Wednesday and 5 field miles on Thursday. Today I did 4 treadmill miles. Unfortunately all have been ...

Always a price to pay?

After my 15 mile road run on Sunday, I iced the achilles before a busy afternoon watching Hull KR beat Huddersfield (live, despite it being on the tele). I didn't feel the achilles injury at all. By Monday morning it was VERY sore and inflamed. ...

Didn't manage 13 miles......

I had to settle for just over 15 instead! All on road in around 2 hours 20 minutes, couldn't be more delighted! Beautiful morning and the promise of high temperatures, got me out the door just after 8 am. I ran my half marathon route ...

Race Number 7774

My Edinburgh Marathon running number arrived by e-mail today together with final instructions - seriously getting excited now, two weeks on Sunday! No cock ups now Ruddy, its so close i can nearly taste it. No training today, a proper...

Field Run

After 2 days running on the road (12 miles in total) I decided to take the pressure off the calf/achilles injury and run on the field - so why did I feel the injury more today!!?? I am hoping to run a 13 or 15 miler road run on Sunday...

Raring to go

Training yesterday was a notional 5 miles in 52 minutes. However as I went past a known 3 mile marker in under 27 minutes me thinks I probably ran further? (On road, no real injury related problems) Today I am off work as Karen is on ...

Don't falter now.

I ran 20 miles on Sunday. 12 on the treddie & 8 laps of the University sports field, it was especially hard as the grass was really long. Its my second 20 miler in 8 days, yet because I have not done 20 miles on the road and my Friday 4 miler...

Why am I doubting myself?

Managed 20 miles on Sunday, my second 20 miler on the trot. 12 miles on the treddie, 8 laps of the Uni sports field where the grass was LONG and hard work. Yet all I can think of is my dodgy 4 mile road run on Friday. It caused my dod...

Friday Night Road Run

Well it had to happen? First road run since mid March. After just short of 36 miles this week already I needed 4 n bit for 40 for the week. Who'd of thought I would be fit enough for that just a couple of weeks ago? I ran 4.1 miles in...

Are you going to be No 800?

Comment on this blog? Training at lunchtime was 5.75 miles in about 50 minutes on the Uni sports field. The field has dried a bit but the grass looks longer - in one day? - so it was hard work again. 35.75 miles for week so far Sunday...

Been out again, what a differ...

Around about the time I went to bed last night it was starting to rain and how it must continued through the night. At lunch time large parts of the University sports field were under water or very boggy anyway - it was hard going! The grass was ...

First outdoor run since 14th ...

Beauty of a day for it, a bit too warm if anything. The legs were still heavy from Sundays 20 mile treddie extravaganza (why would'nt they be?) so I had a good warm up in the gym before setting off nervously (daft I know) intending to do 3 laps/m...

Stretch & Loosening session

Training today was very light after yesterdays mammoth treddie run, 15-20 minutes stretching, 15 min x bike & rower plus 10 min in the sauna. It was just the job and loosened a few aching muscles up nicely. Unsurprisingly the ankl...

Sheer Bloody Mindedness

32.4 k's in 3.30 minutes. I never ever imagined I could run 20 miles on a treadmill, but when injuries decide you must keep off the road and your running a marathon 4 weeks today, you dig deep and find out how much you want it? ...
