London Marathon 2014 - Mission to complete in under...

After running London last year I never really pushed myself to the absolute limit, my goal was to achieve a sub 4 hour time & this year I am more determined than ever. By the time I stand on the start line on 13th April 2014 I know that i'd have done everything possible to prepare for a sub 4 hour time.

This will probably be my last shot at this as I have always said that when I have completed three London Marathons then that's it, so I am hoping to go out with a sub 4 hour personal best..

This is my journey, & along with it will be some highs & lows but by sharing it with you I will hopefully draw on other peoples experiences.

I am running for Children with Cancer UK & I hope to raise as much as I can before the big day.

Let the hard work begin!!!

I'M HITTING FORM JUST AT THE ...

Hi all, Since I have had my tendonitis I have been doing more cross training work on my bike, which a lot of you know I hate doing. But it has paid off, as the last two runs I have done I have achieved new P.B's. Today I set of for my 13 mile run, which...

10 MILE RECOVERY RUN WITH A P.B

Hi all, As I woke this morning I was greeted by my two young boys with cards & gifts for Mother's Day. After helping them make my wife breakfast in bed I started to think about my longest recovery run in over 3 weeks. My foot didn't feel that great...

STANDING AT A CROSSROADS.

Hi all, The title of this blog says it all I feel like i'm standing at a crossroads & don't know which way to turn. Do I risk my injury & push myself to get to the start line of the marathon? Or do I call it a day now & come back fitter &...;

TAKE EACH RUN ONE STEP AT A T...

Hi all, Sorry I haven't been in touch over the last few weeks, I have had a horrid time with injury & illness. On Feb 20th I was told I had Tendonitis in my left foot, this would explain why I couldn't stand on it without being in pain. It all start...

INJURY HAS STRUCK!!!!

Hi all, This is not what I needed when I thought I was getting back on track. After the horrid time I have had with a virus (see last post) I now have been dealt an even bigger blow in that I have damaged my 'Plantar Fasciitis' the soft tissues under my...

HARD WORK FOR 10 MILES.

After having a week to forget, being struck down with a virus, I was up & out again this morning for my usual 10 miler. To be honest I still didn't feel great but I knew I couldn't take anymore time off from running as it'll be hard to get my fitnes...

A WEEK TO FORGET....

Hi all, Since last Wednesday I have done a grand total of ZERO miles in my training, this is because I have been struck down with a virus which I caught from my 5 year old. He has been suffering from a virius called 'Slap Cheek' & adults can get the...

MARATHON PACE & RUNNING GEAR.

MARATHON PACE & RUNNING GEAR Hi all, All this week I have been reading & commenting on other peoples blogs about 'what is your marathon pace'? This is one of the most important things to know before the big day as you need to know your pace bef...

THE STRONG WINDS WILL NOT BEA...

Hi all, As I sit here to write another blog I can't help feeling that the eliments are against us at the moment. Just when I thought we had got through such a horrid few weeks with snow & ice, now we have to contend with the gale force winds. As I l...

THE MILES KEEP ADDING UP.

As I write this blog I have just finished my longest run of my marathon training. I managed 14 miles in 1hr 58 mins, with an average mile pace of 8.26. Not bad considering I had gale force winds to contend with most of the way around. It never seems to ...

BACK ON THE ROAD.

As I woke this morning I pulled back the curtains to see that all the white stuff (that's snow by the way) had finally started to disappear. This was a great relief as the last few weeks have been hard work in the gym (see my last blog). At last I could...

TREADMILL TRAINING

TREADMILL TRAINING As the snow has been fallen over the past few days, it has been to dangerous to go out running. The snow isn't the problem, it's the ice. I really don't want to be risking an injury with the marathon so close. With this in mind I deci...

THE REAL WORK BEGINS...........

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Now that 2012 is well & truely behind us it's time for the serious training to begin. I always find the first run after Christmas is the hardest, as I take a few days off from training to spend quality time with family & frien...

HITTING YOUR GOALS.

Hitting your goalsis such a rewarding feeling & a sense of real achievement especially when you have had setbacks along the way (see my last blog). Today was D-Day for me as this was my last long run before the Christmas period. I set myself a goal,...

ONE STEP FORWARD, TWO STEPS B...

ONE STEP FORWARD & TWO STEPS BACK..........This is how my training is going for the London Marathon at present. I was on course for hitting my target (of running 13 miles) by Christmas but this might not be the case now & I might have to re-thin...

DEALING WITH SET BACKS

Training took a set back this week, as i have come down with 'Man Flu' & i haven't had the energy to get out & train. I have learnt not to let this get me down, as i'm sure to have other set backs before the start of the marathon. Half Term is u...

THE NIGHTS ARE DRAWING IN...

As the nights start drawing in evening runs are becoming more of a challenge. This is especially difficult for me as i live in the countryside with very little street lighting. As the weather becomes colder & winter takes it's toll, this is when i n...
