My first marathon, eek!!

I have a place to run my first marathon - and the London marathon too, yay!

I am quite excited but also a little scared, I have never done anything like this before. I have been reading and planning lots over the last few days and just finalising my training plan - training starts Monday!! Looking forward to getting started ....

Back on it :-)

I have made a start on my shiny new 16 week training plan and had a better run today than I've had for a few weeks :-) And I was pleased to get out in the good weather this morning as it was lousy by this afternoon :-) It was still slow by most people's...

Erm, where has December gone?!

It has been a bit of a mixed month and not a great running month, but hey ho. A combination of having a horrible cough that wouldn't shift, being away, going out (well, it was Christmas!) and having people over has meant that I have only been running ab...

coughing and cake sale ...

Well, I seem to have picked up a horrible cough from somewhere ... cough, cough, splutter, splutter, big booo. I will have to see how I am tomorrow, but there's a chance I may have to let my 'long' run go this weekend. I can barely walk about without ga...

What a lovely morning for a run!

I can't believe it's 7th December and the running weather is still so good, I feel very lucky. Although I had my first proper chilly run on Monday night, very brrrr, a taste of things to come I guess! Still, sun is shining and there is no rain or frost ...

15km run today ...

I'm getting there, one extra km at the time!! I can't believe how warm and sunny it was this morning, is it really the end of November?! Long may it last, there is plenty of time for chilly runs before April, brrrr! Earlier in the week I made a rookie m...

5 months today people!!!

This time in 5 months we'll be on our way!  It seems ages away and scarily close all at the same time! Bring. It . On.

I can now run 1/3 of a marath...

I just need to add the other 2/3 on the end and I'll be sorted, haha!! Still got 5 months to go though. Bring. It. On. Had a good run today, loving the fact that it's still so mild in November. Oh, and I have finally got my diet sorted out a bit and h...

My sofa was really calling me...

.... I got off my lazy bum and went out for a run, yey! I remember being told that you should never miss a training session because you can't be bothered, because there will be some that you really can't do because for one reason or another and then you...

First proper 'hill session'. ...

So who knew running up and down hills could be such a killer?! I did my first 30 min hill session tonight - running up as fast I could, jogging down. It was HARD work but felt quite good in a weird kind of way ;-) Short term pain for long term gain, rig...

Longest run yet :-)

Mr C is away this weekend so I switched to doing my long run to tonight. It was a bit tough doing it at the end of a busy week, but did the 12k on my training plan - the furthest I have ever run, yey!! It was really slow, but did it in one go so was ple...

I did some exercise without g...

Given the injury- and accident-prone week I had last week I was a little nervous of going for a run tonight. But, I did a gentle (read slow, very slow!) 5.5km and all is just about well again, hooooray! I can still feel a few bruises from my bike fall, ...

More downs than ups today ...

Well, having had some ankle pain earlier in the week and been advised to back off running for a bit, I duly set out on a bike ride this morning. I decided to go off at a decent speed to make it worth it and started well. And then I fell off. I haven't f...

The good and the bad ...

Had a good long (still short but getting a bit longer) steady run at the weekend. Took some sports drink with me and had some once I got to about 50-60 mins and think it helped, yey! I set off for a shorter run on Tuesday but had horrible stabbing pains...

What a difference a (rest) da...

I went for a run Monday evening and it was really hard - aching legs, burning lungs, stitch, the lot. Boo. Didn't run yesterday and went out this morning and felt great. I ran further and quicker, had a real spring in my step, yey! Quite reassuring that...

I tried a new route today ...

.... and it was much more hilly than I am used to, nearly killed me - that'll teach me, haha!! Had to stop at one point because I thought I was going to throw up, niiiice! Still, week 4 (short) long run done. Yay! 6 months today I will hopefully be reco...

Week 4 well underway ...

I am quite pleased with myself for going for a run tonight! I'm shattered as my little girl was up quite a lot in the night last night, and it was pouring down with rain. Boo. But I got my bum off the sofa and went to the gym for an interval session. It...

Week three, done!

I have been away visiting my family in Somerset this weekend, but managed to fit in my (short) long run this morning, yey! I ran along the promenade and coast road, it was really nice way to run. I even turned my music down (very rare for me!) so I coul...

Week 3, run 2

Half way through week 3 already! I can safely say I am going for the "slow and steady wins the race" approach to this marathon thing. Well, maybe more "slow and steady finishes the course and doesn't die" approach, but I certainly won't be jostling with...

To go or not to go ... ?

Is anyone going to (or has anyone been to) one of the VLM Meet the Experts sessions? I can't decide if it's worth booking a place or not. Thanks! Claire.

Week 3 starts ...

First run of week 3 last night was both good and bad. Didn't seem to have any umph in my legs so was super slow. But it's done, and can't help thinking at this stage that's all that matters. Next job is to sort out what/when to eat to fuel me through ev...

End of week 2 'long slow run'...

I am using the words 'long' and 'run' in the loosest sense here - it was more of a 'short slow jog'!  But still, I've done the 8km the training plan said to do, so am pleased with that. Popping out to the shops in a bit (including SweatShop!) and out f...

Birthday rest day!

Have had a well deserved (in my opinion!) rest day as today is my birthday - no running and steak pie for tea, yey! ;-) Back to it with weekly long run tomorrow though, can't slack off when I'm only in week 2 of my training plan!

OK, trainers going back :-(

Week 2, run 3. Went ok but a few km in my feet (and toes in particular) were not feeling great at all in new trainers. Bugger. So, back to SweatShop I go, third time lucky!

Trainer dilemma already, boo.

Ok, so I did the right thing and had my gait and running style analysed at SweatShop and paid good money for decent trainers with the correct support for the first time ever! Once I had run about 10 mins in them they were soooo uncomfortable I had to tu...
