Highs and Lows of becoming an Ultramarathon Runner

  • For those of you that never read my first blog here is the link, it will explain how and where I started with this challenge

http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/eclipse/big-loss-huge-gain/

I have recently been thinking to myself about what my real long term goals are and providing the body is willing this will be me running Ultramarathons, for those of you that are unsure what I ultra is, it is anything over 26.2 miles although most are 30 miles +, I am completely fascinated by what the human body can endure to achieve these distances, to this end I have created my blog to show the highs and lows on my journey to become a "Ultramarathon Runner"

My first ever event went with out to many problems, the Bushy Park 5k, I loved every minute of it, I had my doubts on the way around and thought at a few points that I wouldn't finish it but kept on pushing and got through, time of 49mins

Challenges for the next three years:

Below is a list of events that I would like to attempt! as we all know you may apply for events but that doesn't mean you are in so keeping a number of options open.

  • Silverstone Half Marathon March 2009: completed in 3hr 34min.
  • Applied for 2010 London Marathon: didnt get in!
  • Mad Hatters 5 mile walk: 06/06/10 fun event
  • Grizzly: 13/03/11 Finished it, me below at the start line

  • Virgin London Marathon: April 2011 Done.

  • Clun Valley: May Booked Place No 134.

April 2013:

Update, I am still awaiting my f***ing "Gaststric bypass" Almost 2 years now, they are doing some tests on my heart to make sure it is strong enough!!!, I ran the london marathon whilst weighing 23 stone, surely if it could handle that it can handle a bloody operation!!

Anyway for now I just have to keep waiting, I also have to get my **** back up off the couch and start training again.

Please bare with me and I will get there eventualy.

January 2015

Finaly had the Op, very uncomfortable, now waiting to get back to training.

May 2015

Lost 6.5 stone, 41kg, 91lb, no matter which way I look at it I have done quite well, roughly 2 stones per month, it will start leveling out now so I realy need to hit hard on the training.

December 2015

Ok so things havent gone well with training since the OP, lost 10.5 stone now but just can not get my head back into training, decided I need to set myself a challenge, I have decided on the South Downs Half marathon in June 2016, this will be a real challenge as I have no hills around here to train on.

Bucket List:

  • South Downs Half
  • Great Barrow Challenge!
  • Marathon Des Sables!
  • Coast to Coast
  • Badwater!

I hope you will continue to follow me on my journey to become a Ultramarathon Man!
