I am a Marathon Runner

Hi, my name is Glen, married with 2 young kids (a 6 year old son and a 3 year old daughter) and I am becoming a running addict. Taking up running in 2007 in an attempt to try something new, and bored of looking at the 4 gym walls every morning, I decided to run outside and see new places and get some fresh air.

Two 10ks, a 10 miler and the Robin Hood Half followed throughout 2007, and then the running dwindled until mid 2009 with one or two runs a week and no races. Then I succeeded in my second ballot attempt to run the VLM in 2010. Months of training ensued, a further 2 10ks and a Half Marathon were run, and the best running experience of my life took place on 25th April 2010 in our Capital City when I ran the VLM. I am a Marathon Runner.

It is now May 2010, and I have decided to hang around on the VLM forum as the advice and laughs had on here makes it a decent place to be around, and the support from all levels of runner is amazing. It also inspires you to get out of the house each day!

The next highlight on the calendar is the Great North Run in September 2010.

B***dy Treadmills

Sorry, I don't like them, but to be fair they serve a purpose! No running Friday morning, stopped up late to watch us clinch the Ashes, and a 2am bedtime does not match with a 5.30am run! About 3-4 inch of snow during Friday actually made me think a run...

Two posts in 48 hours

And lots of comments on my favourite bloggers from last year. I am almost impressing myself (other than I have a load of Governor files to read which I am putting off to do this!!). If you enjoy this blog, and wonder why I don't comment on your blog, pl...

New Year, New Plans, Nothing ...

Happy New Year Real Buzzers, I need some motivation, so I am back! Regular readers from last year will know that there is no marathon on the horizon this year, but I do have plans. Firstly, my fastest HM was in March last year whilst half way through my...

So...where was I all those we...

I have just written a mega long blog and it crashed, I am not amused! Therefore, greatly shortened version!! Didn't do Barnsley 10k as wife and daughter were ill, and I took my son to a Remembrance Day Parade he was taking part in. Ran the Leeds Abbey D...

Newbie

Remember me? 4 weeks since my last post, I even ran a race in that time, and I am still running! I won't go through every run that has happened over the past month, but suffice to say it has been an ok month running wise. For those with unbelievably sup...

Ooh I say....

....was it Dan Maskell who was the tennis commentator who used to say that? I don't blog for about 5 days and the ballot results come out, and suddenly I am 20 pages behind with comments! Oh dear, work is stupidly crazy but I will do my best to catch up...

So there it was....

...I think I have found my running mojo somewhere around week 6 of my marathon training program!!! 2 days into my cunning plan of copying the build up to the HM I did in March (which in turn was in the build up to London), and suddenly my motivation has...

Did I really used to do that?

Not much running this week, since the GNR I have done 2 runs, a 3 mile bimble on Wednesday, and a 10 miler this morning. Decided a mix of keeping the legs moving, but letting a small niggle in my right ankle have some rest, and then get myself fit for a...

New Horizons....

....I have come to terms with Sunday now, and to be honest, I am now satisfied with the performance. The hills totally threw me, not sure why as I live in such a hilly area anyway, but I just expected more downhill than I seemed to get! And that seemed ...

Great North Run

Short and succinct today me thinks. Not a race I enjoyed, more endured! Finishing time 2 hours 5 minutes and 12 seconds, 11 and a half minutes slower than my previous personal worst. I even went through London at halfway feeling very strong and 3 mins f...

I remember when.....

...I used to post on other peoples blogs. Fresh start, will comment from now, it can be a 'New Post GNR' resolution or something! In taper mode for the GNR now, done quite a few shorter runs to keep the legs ticking over. I am happy I have done enough m...

Calling all GNR entrants

First of all, if someone has already done this then please point me in the right direction, I haven't read any blogs since last week, I intend to catch up tonight. But, anyone who has done the race before (I haven't), would they like to suggest a meetin...

A Fresh Approach

I have just decided to start a blog by not apologising for not writing comments, not looking at Realbuzz for a week or so, and giving lots of reasons why I will now definitely improve. Although I certainly intend to! So running in the past week or two, ...

Needed - one mojo and wellnes...

So, I think I was feeling under the weather when I last blogged, and had done numerous runs whilst feeling like that. So I decided to take the rest of last week off, it was a step back week on the GNR training plan I am following anyway. Sadly, it is no...

I feel like Simone.......

......for I too have sinned. Realbuzz has disappeared out of my life for a couple of weeks. Although I have been away for the best part of a fortnight, but still, it has been too long, I have commented on zero posts whilst away, and cannot remember half...

School Holidays = Rain

I haven't run in rain for a while. Well, until the past few days. Friday was an unusual run for me, an evening run. Not something I do regularly, I am a morning kind of guy. But, with a busy weekend at the cricket and not knowing how the headache would ...

So, where are we now?

I hope to catch up on comments on blogs this weekend, probably Sunday, or maybe this afternoon is I feel I need another half hour break from catching up from being behind with workloads at work, so apologies for being behind anyway! I have also decided ...

End of week 3, start of week 4

Firstly, back problem solved, and I love my physio. Not only has she sorted my back, she has banned me from cutting down our conifers for the rest of my life! Since my operation 6 years ago, I cannot bend backwards and achieve movement in my lower back....

Physios and creaking backs

Absolutely zilch running to report about since the aborted run on Monday, thanks to my back. It has actually eased a lot, but I have a physio session arranged for first thing tomorrow. It actually feels very stiff and achey on a morning, eases as the da...

A fortnight?

It cannot be a fortnight since I last blogged? Oh ok then, it must be. I must have been too busy running to find the time to blog. Or marking more exams, or getting on with life, or working, or doing my back in again. Oh hang on, all of those things! An...

How fast?

I hope you are all suitably impressed, 2 blogs in 48 hours!! So, training plan downloaded on Saturday, which began yesterday, 12 weeks, goal, run the GNR in a respectable time. My only 2 previous Half's have resulted in 1hr 54 mins and 1hr 51 mins 30 se...

Backside into gear

I have a load of excuses as to why I have been too busy to blog, most of them genuine, but most of them have been and gone now, so I am back to stay for the time being!! 12 weeks today, Great North Run awaits, and although it seems like a small matter a...

Sorry, holidays and desertion

My excuse for disappearing for the past week has been a holiday at the coast during half term, the week before that I was ill and hardly did any running, but to be honest I had a week off Realbuzz also, so I apologise for the lack of comments. I will im...

I remember when.....

...I used to find time for blogging. Sorry guys, about a week behind on comments, I will find time soon I promise. The last few weeks have been manic with work and Governor stuff, mainly catching up with the parts of the jobs I was neglecting for a mont...
