The Smurf got me but I'm still running!

This year has been a rubbish year for running. After pulling the curtains shut in April and tearing a tendon in my shoulder its been doctors, physio, and hospital appointments. I did managed to get round the Burnley 10k.

For the last 5 years I have entered the ballot for the London Marathon but never got in, one year I got a charity place and got injured after raising most of the money but they wouldn't defer the place.

So when the smurf arrived on the doorstep I thought....to hell with it, I am getting OLD now, 48, every morning I wake up with another creak, if I don't don't do it soon then I will give up. Some charities that I had already contacted in May didn't get back to me only wanting my free place.

BUT the first charity and the one closest to me said YES. They are Epilepsy Research, I am epileptic and have been since I was 17 and so is my brother. Out of 3 children thats some percentage.

Now I have to raise £1500 and run a marathon, actually I think raising the money is going to be easier. Next Wednesday I have an operation on my shoulder, just a small one - the shoulder needs to be mainupulated as it's frozen and I have limited mobility on my right side. I have got my marathon plan sorted to start 3 days AFTER my op - positive thinking.

Hopefully by Monday I will have apartment sorted in the Docklands - they are double checking availabilty (I work for a holiday company and get 25% discount) and have started a VLM folder. Start as I mean to go on.

Next week I have a week off so can stress a bit more then.....but quietly very excited

New week

Last week didn't go to plan. I had registered with my first ever Park run but wasn't looking forward to it - remembered the Sports Relief 3 mile I did at the same part of the park and its very hilly - even worse than where I live. I usually choose races...

Tierd!

Last night I worked a long day until 8pm so by the time I got home it was nearly 9pm - always late for tea but I had a lovely piece of salmon and some rice. This morning I had to get up early to take my Mum and Aunt to do their fortnightly food shopping...

6.5 miles in the bank - just ...

Weather forecast had given it out to be a lovely day today and I was looking forward to getting outside instead of being in the garage on the treadmill. Saturday night I got home,  I felt like crap and hurt (my chest had a rash where there shouldn't hav...

Bored with running indoors

I came home this afternoon - was looking forward to having a run. It was poring down and although I am not bothered about getting wet I am worried about the amount of leaves and slipping, so decided to do a treadmill run. Galaxy Pad at the ready to watc...

Forgive me for I have sinned

It seems ages since the last time I blogged. Last week I ran ONCE and that was Tuesday a meagre 3 miles. Monday and Thursday saw two long days and it was nearly 9pm before I got home and I had swapped my day off on Saturday to help at a charity fundrais...

three times a week.....

Finding it hard workwise to run 4 times a week so I am going to revise my Asics plan to run 3 times a week and see how it goes. I am going to be working overtime probably until Christmas twice a week so my working day will be 9-8pm and as it takes me 40...

New Trainers and a run

After all the trials of the weekend I popped off in the hire car, a lovely Chevrolet Spark to the running shop to pick up my new trainers - the ones that I got last week but 1/2 size smaller than was needed.  I love Asics and these are lovely and a more...

Car accident

Haven't had  good week running wise and other than my 3 miles hadn't been able to get out.  Can think of loads of excuses and really shouldn't but a lot of the time I had been really tierd by the time I had come home from work - weather crap and I could...

A new week

Day off today and the running week starts here :- It all started with a trip to the physio with my shoulder, they were very happy with how things are going and mobility is improving. So a massive positive there! Second thing on agenda was picking up my ...

Weekend not gone to plan

Last night on my way home from work the sky turned orange, thunder, lightning and torential rain and there was no chance I was even going to attempt to run in that. So day 3 of plan aborted, I reckoned that although I couldn't put both runs together I w...

Better weather at least....

To get me back on track with my training I was supposed to do 3.72 miles today and to most people that would be a breeze. I was looking forward to my run all day, the weather had been glorious a typical Autumn day, mild, sun was getting out and the colo...

One day late -wet and windy!

Back to work today after a week off with my shoulder. Luckily its only my half day so I finished at two so training could resume. I was supposed to run yesterday and the plan was 3 miles. But I felt awful in the afternoon after going to the running stor...

Rest Day

Its a miserable sort of day today -really wet. I am still on my holidays until Wednesday - I didn't take sick going into hospital as I had loads of holidays still left so its been nice knowing that I didn't have to rush back to work. No running today as...

A funny burning smell - was I...

My last run of this weeks plan was 4.5 miles. Looked at the weather again and decided to take it easy by doing another treddie run but doing it a little bit different than normal. Instead of doing my normal 2 minutes walk/run I thought that I would spee...

Three miles done - on the tre...

I was looking to run outside but it was soooooo windy and I have still to be careful about my shoulder, even I forget I was in the hospital on Wednesday having a general anaeathestic. So luck has it that I have a heavy duty treadmill in the garage whic...

Physio Appointment

Phoned the Physio Department to see if they had received my referral letter from the hospital and they had - today. They classed it as urgent so I got an appointment at 11.30am. Mind you after I had walked up and filled in the form it took me all of 5 ...

Tuesday and Wednesday post

I thought I had blogged on Tuesday but obviously not! Hadn't eaten really well all day - a bowl of cereal and a jam sandwich so by the time it cam to my 4.5 mile run there wasn't much in me to keep my legs going. Breathing was ok but just no energy. To ...

First Day and 3 miles....

Last day at work before a week off and two days before  my shoulder op on Wednesday. I had already dowloaded a personal training plan from Asics which plans my runs between now and April 13th 2014. I decided that I could easily train 4 times a week, sin...
