Easy day

Posted on: 12 Jul 2013

Took it easy today with a steady lunchtime run with Jo - a good job too as it was the hottest, muggiest (is that a word?) day so far this week! Jo has had a great week - her fastest 4 miles on Wednesday and then she beat that again on Thursday.

Today we set off to do an easy 4 mile route... however I'd spotted that Jo was 4.14 miles short of reaching 50 miles since she started running with us and I knew that if we just did the 4.03 miles route she'd be very disappointed.

So I worked out a route of 4.24 miles to make sure she beat the distance needed but didn't tell her. We ran and chatted and kept the pace around 10-11 minute miles. After we came out of the park and headed for the snicketts, I told Jo I wanted to make a short detour and we did a little loop.

We carried on and it seemed to get hotter the further we went despite running in the shade wherever we could. As we headed across the moor I told Jo why I'd made the short detour and she was delighted - not only had she reached the 50 miles mark but today was her longest lunchtime run.

Despite the sun and some people not running because it was too hot, we did just over 89 miles between us this week and our total for the year is now 2,946 miles in our lunch breaks.

A good rest day for me tomorrow and then on Sunday we're going to do a recce of a 10k race we've got next Sunday.

Happy running!
