Having gone out for a quick 30 minute run last night, i stumbled in the door an hour and 45 mins later, beaming from ear to ear... (9 miles)
My body seems to have adapted to running longer distances, and it just feels so comfortable if that makes any sense? It's always horrible to start with, but then once i've warmed up, it just starts to feel natural...
Anyways, after reading Born to Run recently, I regularly have a mooch at Scott Jurek's website and blog, and was fascinated to see that he recently did a 24 hour run, where he managed just over 165 miles...This then got me looking up ultramarathons etc, and i am just in awe of the mileage that some people do!
For instance, in April 2011 there is a race from John O'Groats to Land's End, which is 860 miles, covering 58 miles per day for 15 consecutive days!! Makes me feel rather humbled lol
The great thing for me is that running has now become an all-consuming hobby, to the point that I have amassed a surprising collection of books and articles haha...
I'm also fascinated by things like polar explorations and anything that involves pushing yourself to the limit and beyond. At the mo i'm reading the biography of Colonel Joe Kittinger, who did a freefall from 102,800 feet at speeds of up to 614 miles per hour! Crazy stuff!
At the end of the day, the sky's the limit eh! Who knows what you can achieve if you set your mind to it :-)
Happy running :-)
