Training for another Half Marathon

Gauntlets:

1.  Run a sub 30 5k parkrun ( my old pb was 32.01 in Dulwich and 34.06 in St Albans New PB set in St Albans 31/05/14: 30.41)  Hope that sub 30 5k is getting nervous coz I'm coming for you.

2. Run the Hackney Half in less time than Silverstone (2:52:35)

3. Re-learn and practice Tai Chi 24 form (have the courage to perform it in the park one sunny morning without stressing or feeling self consious).  [I have done it on the beach in Santa Monica why can't I do it in a park in London?]

'Ackney 'Arf - 22/06/14

This will have to be the last update on this blog.  I’ve now trained and completed my 2nd half marathon.  Next biggie will be Brighton Marathon in 2015 (unless I register for another half in the meantime). Very early start (poor Hubby not used to gettin...

First Anniversary – 30th June

On the 30th June it’ll be my first anniversary – the first day I had my first ever ‘run’.  Encouraged by a twitter friend who had completed the London Marathon that year. In my first blog I detailed my 15mins round the park in the warm sunshine at 7.20a...

Bushy Parkrun 14/06/14

Saturday 14th June.  Joined Nick at Bushy Parkrun this morning.  Had to catch 3 trains to Hampton Wick and then try to find the start in the massive park with no clues!  I asked a jogger if he knew where the start of the Parkrun was and he said he’d nev...

Gt British 10k London Run 13t...

My joining instructions arrived this morning and not sure how it happened but I appear to be in the Help for Heroes Team of 1914.  I had a request a few weeks ago from them to remind me to set up my Justgiving page as they are hoping everyone will raise...

Parkrun number 29 - 31st May ...

Journey wasn’t too brilliant (set off at 7am) but got there in the end and at the time I’d hoped to.  Marc met me at the barriers resplendent in Orange – how did I miss him? Nice car – soon at the park.  Public facilities locked!!  Stood staring at the ...

"Timeless Challenge"

I read the attached article a couple of weeks ago:  Runner World – Run your fastest race with “Timeless Challenge”  Now I admit I’m not very up on the pace rates and things so I tend very much to run how I feel, listening to my breathing etc so I was qu...

Tuesday Pace Run

Tuesday 27th May.  Pace Run 5x1 X 4 (4-5miles) Felt odd (out of sorts) to start with today, bit anxious.  Weather looked grim, Simba (cat) came in damp (soggy moggy).  Went out a bit later than planned (7.50am) headed over to Alexander Recreation Park. ...

Still on the road to Hackney....

Last week’s programme:  Tuesday Pace Run 5mins up tempo x 3 mins slow for 5 sets (5-6miles).  Headed over the Alexander rec park about 8am (maybe a hint later than should have been) weather felt ‘muggy’.  Fasts still aren’t that fast but not that slow e...

Pain is just French Bread

"Pain is just French Bread" T’was on a tee shirt at the parkrun the other week and it made me smile. Last Saturday week saw me volunteering at the Parkrun, but this week I had a run – no PB this time but I was close 32.09mins age grade of 54.17% so I wa...

Getting Lost and Latest Parkrun

Train ticket to St Albans has been ordered for 31st May.  2 Sessions left on the Wii EA Active II to go (Mon & Tues). Last Wednesday the Underground strike prompted me to have a go at a run home from work.  Got lost TWICE!  ‘Him Indoors’ simply said...

Challenges and Achievements

Only got 8 7 sessions left on the WII EA Fitness II - 9 week challenge.  In that time I have achieved 3 PB’s at Dulwich Park Run and was awarded Park Runner of the Month. (Okay one was by 3 seconds but still counts!).  Travelled to the Sweatshop in Bish...

Loved this youtube video from Friday’s XFM radio show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7mc9QWZJ_M Hope you enjoy it too. Congratulations and well done to all our VLM 2014 runners.  Just wanted to share my news with you guys.  On Saturday at the Dulwich...

I was thinking....

I was thinking (“Don’t strain yourself Harry”) This Marathon training is beginning to sound a lot like giving birth.  I remember with great clarity, the discussions regarding the birth, writing up the birthing plan, talks with the midwife about the whol...

Dulwich Parkrun Number 23

Sorry I haven’t been writing for a while, but a) I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by everyone’s successful VLM stories and b) I haven’t really been out much since Silverstone. I have signed up for the Run Hackney Half Marathon in June and the Gt British 10k ...
My weekend started on Friday with a journey up to Warwick.  Had a quick look round the museum and then found a wonderful shoe shop and got a new pair of boots (which was useful as my shoes had been leaking and I’d forgotten to pack my walking trainers)....

What's the Big Bag for?

My Silverstone half marathon  pack has arrived and with it the most enormous bag!  Does anyone know what it’s for please? Training has been taking a bit of a dive lately so I dug out the old programme and counted back from the ‘event day’ and picked it...

Two days of training

Another slow week training wise.  But headed over to Dulwich park for the parkrun on Saturday.  Turned into quite a nice sunny day weather wise (only started raining on the way home).  No gold medals (or PB’s) this time, quite a sedentary pace.  Passed ...

Born Lazy I guess

Why do I not run every day?  I love it once I’m out there, but I’m so good at making excuses not to go...  It’s too  cold, it’s raining, , it’s too dark, my gear isn’t washed, look at the time it’s too late to go out now.. etc etc etc.  Yet once I get m...

One run last week.

Been resting up this week to give my leg a chance to improve.  (That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it). Saturday 25th As per my new year’s resolution, as I achieved a new Parkrun PB last week (with Vin’s help – thanks – finally got into the 33’s).  I ...

Week 9 Continuing

Four runs achieved.  Sorry this is going to be a bit of an epic.  So the executive summary follows: Tuesday 40 mins run – Crystal Palace park, Weather cold but sunny Thursday  40mins ‘speed bursts’ for want of a better phrase – Alexandra rec Park, Damp ...

Should I wear my mud with pri...

Another query.  I’ve just noticed that my training programme I’ve sort of been following (basically used for guidance) has only three weeks left but my half marathon isn’t until March 2nd.  So do I just repeat sessions I liked, increase the rest days or...

A very Happy New Year to one and all.  Thank you for all your wonderful blogs, stories and comments.  I’ve been enjoying reading them all (just not so good at replying to them using my phone though). Haven’t been getting out as much as I should, combina...

Week 6 Taper and mini target ...

Sunday 8th Dec – 90 mins comfortable – still on a high from the St Albans Parkrun yesterday, I went to Kelsey Park in Beckenham for a couple of circuits.  Left home later than planned so hadn’t had breakfast. This Park is definately one of my favourites...
