Why can I enter some events straight away whereas other events I have to apply to run?

In some events, particularly where demand for places is very high, charities can secure a team up front. In these cases, you apply directly with the charity and they vet your application. It's completely free to do, you may just need to pay a deposit if you are accepted, that would be agreed with you in advance. Where a charity does not have a team but they are partnered with your chosen event, you can simply pay a refundable deposit, agree to the fundraising target and sign up there and then!
