What gym exercises are most important for running?

I see two sides to strength and conditioning. The first and most important is from an injury prevention perspective, and the other is from a performance perspective where you’re actually using the gym as a means to get stronger and faster. The two most important areas for you to work are your core and the glute muscles.

If you can keep strong in your core and your glutes when you begin to get tired then you’ll be able to maintain your technique and therefore hold onto your speed more effectively. However, if you’re weak you’ll tire quicker and when your technique begins to leave you you’ll slow down quite a bit because you’re not moving well.

There are so many exercises that you can do but I really rate planks and the massive range of exercises you can do on the TRX trainer.
