Life after the London marathon

My targets for 2016 are exactly the same as those for 2015 but weren't acheived........A sub 4 hour marathon; a sub 23.27 5k or park run (Hollywood's current PB); and a sub 1:50 half.

I'm doing two marathons this year: Manchester in April (did it in 4.13 last year); and Snowdon in October (did it in 5.01 last year).  I'm very excited about both.

Deciding to run my first London marathon in 2013; and being part of this site in the process has quite literally changed my life.  The confidence and pride it has created; the challenges that I've dared to set myself since; and the long term friendships and relationships that have developed are all very special.

Buzzing from another Buzzers ...

Ah....this site....you people....just amazing!  Here's my take on the latest Buzzer's get together... I was gutted that I couldn't go down to Hawkesbury for the HU5K. I was sorry to have missed HOBS, John, Marc P and Nick who all ran that morning.  I ha...

Anyone remember me.....? 😳

I don't generally like to blog before I've caught up and commented on other peoples blogs. But the trouble with being behind on blogging is that the longer it's been since I've done that, the longer I know it'll take to read everyone's blogs...and the m...

Never say never...ever again

Well well well.  Doesn't time fly?  Thank you to you all for your comments on my blog about manchester. You all helped me to put the whole experience into perspective.  I'm a bit emabarrased that I wasn't happier with the result afterwards.  It's a funn...

What can I say?

As always with these post marathon blogs it’s hard to know where to start...and to gauge how much detail I should cover without the risk of boring everyone!  I know that RD has already blogged and I've only had a very brief read of his so far. So here's...

Eeeekkkk!!!!!

Where did the last few weeks go? How is it only 3 more sleeps until I stand on a marathon start line for the 5th time? Firstly I will say that tracking so many buzzers on Sunday was amazing. The app was great and I felt protective of all those little bl...

AND THEY'RE OFF!!!

I have my Brighton marathon app on my phone with all ten race numbers in!  They started at 9.15 and the first split will be 10k.  There are so many Buzzer's running this morning that they'll be hardly anyone around to track them!  But I'm so excited for...

It's April and we all know wh...

The spring marathons are finally upon us. Brighton and Paris this weekend; Manchester the next; and London the weekend after.  I'm bizarrely excited about all of them even though I'm only running one of them.  I've nearly finished all of my training now...

Marathon training is the pits!

Yep it's terrible! Especially at this stage. Long lonely miles; aching limbs; chafing in wierd places; blisters; constant hunger; foregoing alcohol....etc etc etc.  Why on earth do we put ourselves through this torture?! It's sometimes just plain grim! ...

Not quite the week I was expe...

Firstly thank you all for your lovely comments on my last post.  You are all wonderful!  I've only been getting occasional mild tummy pains since last week which is great news.  I'm waiting for a scan date and have had blood tests.   After being so poor...

A fly in the ointment ....

Well this week hasn't gone quite to plan.... I mentioned a few weeks ago that I'd had to pull up short in a long run because of stomach pains.  I've had a few mild pains every now and then since but have put it down to a mild dose if IBS which I seem pr...

Finishing off week 10

Just a quick update from me as there's going to be a few monster blogs over the next few days with all of the incredible realbuzz acheivments this weekend!!  Week 10 of training is now finished. My mid week tempo was just 5 miles. A good distance. My pl...

Another week down - competiti...

..... Well, yes, just a little bit.  As we now know RD didn't manage to keep the one minute gap on our 12 x 400 meters sessions last week. I can't pretend that I'm not just a little bit pleased with that!  Training is still going very well for me. My ne...

On a bit of a high at the moment

I can't believe it's been so long since I've blogged so aplogies if this is a long one.  And I also can't believe that it's less than 7 weeks until the Manchester Marathon.  As Red Dave has mentioned, we have some healthy competition going with our pace...

Another 2 weeks + some nutrit...

Wow - it's blog mania on here! The excitement is building towards the challenges ahead.  I'm pleased to say that everything is starting to slot nicely into place for me. A quick recap on the past 2 weeks of training as follows: Red Dave was still here f...

There's smiley faces on my tr...

My marathon plan has pride of place on my kitchen wall.  I love to look at it and tick off the runs as I do them. And whenever I'm really happy with a run I put a smiley face next to it. This week I have two smiley faces :-) !  I won't bore you with sta...

A bad case of wind....

... of the weather variety! Half way through week three and I've hardly noticed yet that I'm marathon training. I'm enjoying the structure that training brings and not yet resenting having to get out for any of the runs.  After a mediocre week one I was...

New Year - New Marathon

Happy New Year to you all. 2015 is already looking set to be a great year in Realbuzz land! So week one of Manchester marathon training is already complete. As Red Dave has already mentioned, we've managed to do our training for this first week together...

(nearly) The end of a great y...

It's great to see quite a few new Buzzer's popping up on here; plus I expect we'll see a few more over the coming weeks. I'm looking forward to following all of the Buzzer's progress – newbies and old timers. Six weeks has gone by since I last posted. B...

Bit of a contrast...and a sne...

It's hard to believe that Snowdon was less than 3 weeks ago. The weekend was undoubtedly one of my highlights of 2014 and I'm sure that next year will be even bigger and better (and hopefully faster!) What have I been up to since? Last night I did a 10k...

One Day like this a year will...

….or a whole weekend is even better. I don't know where to start. This weekend will live in my memory for many years as very very special.  It's impossible to do justice to it in a short (ish) blog.  Apologies if this blog ends up being over emotional; ...

The Verdict is in

Firstly a huge shout out to all those who ran on Sunday. What a day!! It was such a joy and honour to be in York to witness Red Dave and Marc running; and to meet with Angus and Ali afterwards. I was so happy when I saw Red Dave at mile 3 and to see th...

Post match analysis

Well the dust has settled from Sunday and I've had lots of time to think about things. Thanks so much for all your comments on my last blog. I knew of course rationally that pulling out was the right thing to do but I was very grateful for a bit of real...

Gutted :-(

As many of you already know I didn't finish the chester marathon today. I'm obviously devastated but am trying not to beat myself up too much.  To give you a flavour of what's happened I need to go back a few days. Earlier in the week I came down with a...

I ran up a hill!!

I'm afraid - very afraid. I'm doing a ridiculously hilly marathon in 3 1/2 weeks time and Ive hardly spent any time running up any hills in preparation. Oh dear this could be very interesting !! In the meantime I've been tapering for Chester which is, u...
