Pete W's Fun Run 2008

Well the heat of 2007 hasn't put me off so I'll be applying again for 2008! What really convinced me was the superb camaraderie and support from fellow bloggers (you know who you are!!).

So this site will map out my racing and training as I go through the year until FLM 08.  I'll be doing shorter races over the summer and probably cross country for the club in winter then kicking in the marathon training come December.

Hope to see a lot of fellow 2007 bloggers on here and hope they'll say HI!

Wet track session

On to the track tonight despite the rain.  I did a mile warm up before everyone arrived then did the mile warm up with Mark before doing our drills and preparing for the session.  Tonights session was 6 x 200m sprint with 200m jog fol...

A small group run

A much smaller group tonight... Just 4 of us met up for a good 5.6 mile run with a couple of hills as you'll see if I'm allowed to upload the graph... Set off steady (probably too slow) 9:39 first mile, then as the hill st...

Road & Hills

Well we had one massive group of runners tonight for the road and hills session, not only 18 of my group but 20+ of the Oldham Town Boys cross country team (and some parents) that I volunteered to help. So nearly 40 runners all kitted...

Long windy run!

Well I got out today for the planned 20 but it came in just under and I was so tired towards the end that I couldn't even put in an extra few hundred metres to take it to 20.  It was the wind - great when it was behind me on the way out towards H...

No running but...

I've not run today but did anyone watch the cross country from Edinburgh?  What great races!  It must be great to live there and get to see such brilliant runners up close! I was hoping to go to Edinburgh for the World Cross Country C...

Listen to your body!

Well I often tell people to listen to their body and if they're feeling tired to take a recovery run or rest day, well today I finally listened! I was still feeling tired from last night and it was a struggle to get out of bed this mo...

Two session Thursday

Well this lunch times run was a little wet, no to be honest it was absolutely throwing it down as we went out the door from work and I seriously thought Wendy and Jenny were going to go back in but I got them to set off to see what it was like. ...

Lunch tempo run

Ended up running on my own today so decided on a fast tempo run over a 4.1 miles course.  It was dry, a bit sunny but very windy today and I set off running the first mile up hill and it was freezing - I was in short sleeved T-shirt and shorts! ...

I'm in trouble

After giving Jenny and Wendy some stick for not running last week when it was snowing a bit, today I was the baddie!! I got to work to find out I'd forgot to pack my running shoes so couldn't go running at lunch today!!  So this is no...

Fartlek

Simon G asked me about Fartlek and, having read the comments on his post, I thought I'd post my answer. It's question with loads of answers, it can be as structured or unstructured as you want it. Fartlerk is a Swedish word for speed ...

Feeling Surprisingly Good

Considering how I felt last night after my long run and how my legs and back ached this morning, I really surprised myself tonight with how good I felt for the track session. The session was 3 x 1000m hard with 400m jog and then 4 x 1...

I hurt and ache so much!!!

Well I managed my first 20 mile session today and now I am in so much pain! Not injured fortunately just aching and tired.  I was OK up to around 17 then started to feel it and from 18-19 was awful but picked up a bit in the last mile. ...

Old Training Diaries

After a few comments about me doing 2 sessions in a day, I said on Janis's blog that I'd dig out my old training diaries from the 80s to see what I was doing then.  I found them and decided to regale you from my diary for 1983 in the build up to ...

No excuses!

Well Mr Elwick you were right again - Wendy and Jenny had no excuses today and we did get out for a lunchtime run. I suggested doing the 5k I ran yesterday but they said that as they'd not run for around 3 weeks that it was too far an...

2 Session Thursday

Well today was planned as my first 2 session day of 2008 and the first run of the New Year for Jenny and Wendy.  They were both keen and even talking about building up for a 10k in March! Someone had even kindly bought them both a long sleeved tr...

A recovery run

Amazing how one run can be different from one runner to the next - what's an easy run for one is a fast session for another and a long run for one is a short run for someone else. Tonight's run was a recovery one for me but it seemed ...

Last run of the year

I went out on NYR for my lasy run of the year and did just under 6 miles in 49:16 averaging 8:18 per mile. It was a steady run with mile splits of 8:26, 8:20, 8:23, 7:57, 8:12 and 7:55 for the last section.  I hope you all...

Last Race of 2007

Today I drove up to Clitheroe for the Ribble Valley 10k (my last race of 2007) - I'd been told it was a good course and it was! I got there early and warmed up well - 3.67 miles in total a bit more than I usually do but I was feeling ...

Three Days of Christmas!

Well I did nothing on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day! And I've been aching since the long run on Sunday - just down at the bottom of my back.  So I thought I'd better get out and run today and set off in the pouring rain for a nice ru...

Body 0 Brain 1

Have you ever had one of those conversations in your head during a run where your body wants to cut it short but your brain says go on? Today was like that... Fist of all the weather was great for my planned 15 mile run and I'd worked...

Another good run

Went out at lunch yesterday (on my own again!) Chose to do the same run as Tuesday but in reverse - no Glenn not backwards! This is the tough way round as the hills are steeper and longer.  I pushed hard all the way and did the 4.1 mi...

Recovery run...

Well I was out at lunchtime for a 4.1 mile recovery run - on my own as Jenny and Wendy were busy with Christmas things! Set off steady on another dry cool day for a good run which I finished in 33:55 averaging around 8:18. It felt goo...

Track session

Another good track session tonight and I started off with a mile run before the athletes arrived and thenh did the mile warm up with them.  After our drills we got ready for the session - 2 x 90s hard, 60s walk; 3 x 60s hard, 45s walk; 4 x 30s ha...

Great road race!

Today's 10k was a great race - dry, cold (well freezing!) and hilly! I'd set myself a target of 46 minutes but felt really good and raced hard all the way to finish in 44:38 - well pleased! Not got all the results yet but ...
