I definitely want to get road bike but should I buy a carbon bike? Is the additional expense really worth it?

The carbon versus aluminium debate is one that refuses to go away and much comes down to personal opinion. It is generally accepted that aluminium bikes are in the main heavier than carbon bikes but some people will question whether the weight saving is really worth the additional price.

Carbon bikes are also said to provide a smoother ride as they better dampen vibration from the road surface unlike aluminium which send the vibration directly through to the rider, but much depends on the quality of the bike itself rather than just the material.

Carbon bikes are also said to be more susceptible to damage than aluminium but of course both can sustain damage. Ultimately it often comes down to which bike is most comfortable for you, and if that happens to be an aluminium bike then so be it.
