I have heard that some race events ban wearing earphones and listening to music, is this true?

Yes – some events do enforce this rule therefore it would be unwise to ignore it. Make sure you check out the rules for the event you are taking part in and if there is a ‘no music’ rule try to run on some of your training runs without music to get you used to it.

However, come race day there will be a great atmosphere to absorb from the other runners and the crowd, so running without your tunes will be much easier than you think.

I have just started running so I'm a real beginner and I find running alone really boring I have been thinking about joining a local running club but put off by the fact that everyone there will be really experienced. Any advice?
