About Alan Murchison's blog

Michelin starred chef and highly competitive runner Alan Murchison lets you in on his hectic life both in running and running a highly successful kitchen.

A star of BBC2s Great British Menu, Alan has worked in a Michelin starred kitchen for over 20 years, his biggest influences have come from close friend and mentor Raymond Blanc, with whom Alan worked with for 5 years.

Alan is the only chef in the UK to operate three separate Michelin starred restaurants outside London. They are L'Ortolan in Berkshire, La Becasse in Shropshire and Paris House in Bedfordshire - an achievement that has never been done before. His vision going forward is to have 10 Michelin stars whilst nurturing the very best young talent within the hospitality industry. His 4th restaurant, Angelique in Dartmouth, Devon opened in January 2011.

Alan self published his first cookery book, Food for Thought in 2007 to critical acclaim.  He is happily married (most of the time) to Fiona who is an air traffic controller and lives in Winchester. He has 4 children, Mia 5, Freya 8, Kyle 14 and Megan 16.

Away from work Alan is a highly competitive athlete and often runs 90-100 miles a week. He represents Scotland at Masters Level for cross country running. Alan is the reigning British Masters Cross Country & Half Marathon champion in the M35 age group and now at the ripe old age of 40 is looking to achieve top 10 UK age group rankings in distances ranging from 3k to the marathon.
