Raw eggs, sore knee and a wonderful time!
Feb25201011:21 a.m.
Since the last update - I've passed out, acquired a sore knee, eaten raw egg and whole milk for breakfast and generally am loving it! I had no idea the lifestyle change that this endeavour required until about two weeks ago. When I returned from Afghanistan I was so excited to go outside and run along the river, roads and just enjoy being 'free to roam'! Unfortunately did not consider I was jet lagged and most likely dehydrated from a long journey. After a brutal 13 miles I was showering and pumped up from the run, but then got light headed, fell in the shower and hit my head on the faucet. Oooops! It was a scary and left a nice bump but aside from the slight concussion. I'm fine. :) After this recovery -- I learned I need to really be serious about hydration and nutrition. So started eating anything and everything. And had some interesting advice about protein. So apparently a number of the UK Olympic Tri-athletes drink glasses of milk while training instead of water or energy gels. Well I'm not that keen yet, but thought I'd try to add some milk and protein to the diet... so I downed a raw egg and glass of milk one morning. To my surprise I didn't throw it up and felt really good - kind a like a UK Olympic Tri-athlete. It's still weird and I'm not a UK Olympic Tri-athlete so I only do it occasionally when I can't be bothered to make my cereal or smoothie in the morning :) Finally, apparently my flat feet (because I am Pocahontas' 16th great granddaughter) aren't that good for running. As a result of these lovely non-arched, size 8.5s (38s) feet, I pronate a lot and thus have acquired a sore right knee. Don't worry -- I've got an amazing chiropractor/sports therapist (Flo) who tortures me once a week for the bargain price of 35 GBP. Well -- no pain no gain. Other than that life is great! And I'm 34% of the way to my 3,000 GBP target. Many of you have donated and/or give your time an energy to Afghanaid in other ways. But if you haven't donated can manage $20 or 20 GBP I'd be so appreciative. Each donation and message is a real boost of confidence believe me! www.justgiving.com/AmandaCurley PLUS you get to enjoy my stories for the next two months. If you've missed out on my previous messages you can read through my marathon blog at http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/AmandaCurley/i-m-changing-my-life-style-for-4-months-so-that-i-can-help-afghans-to-change-their-lives-forever/ I am aiming for 17 miles (or 3 hours of running whichever gets me first) this Saturday so I'm sure I'll have some ridiculous story after that one.
