Out of Africa.....

Where do I even begin to start saying what I have been up to recently?! Well, I had a very busy weekend in London a few weeks back when I had several meetings all over the capita. However it took 5 hours to get from Bath to north-east London due to traffic which wasn’t the best start! I also attended the Sports Industry Awards recently - I only had 15 minutes to get ready in my hotel, so although I was super rushed by the time I got to the red carpet, I think I got away with it! I was wearing a dress from Reiss (always a good shop for a party dress!) that I had bought the previous week for a friend’s birthday party! Having attended the awards last year, it struck me how much bigger it seemed this year. It’s such a huge event and I was honoured to be asked to present an award. It’s always a little nerve-racking standing in front of over 1500 people, especially when the audience consisted of the who’s who in sport!. Speaking of which, it was lovely to sit next to Sally Gunnell (a fellow realbuzz.com blogger) who I’d not spoken too much before, but it was a real pleasure to do so that night.

The following day I was on a plane to Africa…to take part in an exciting new TV show I’m going to be on - I can’t say anymore than that unfortunately! I’d never been to Africa before, but it’s always been on my list of places to visit so when the chance came to go I didn’t hesitate to say yes! I was in the Okavango Delta region in Botswana which is an absolutely beautiful area full of wildlife and birds. I highly recommend visiting the area if you can! I was there for two weeks, with a small team of people and producers. We had no and phones no internet, which was bliss! What an amazing feeling. Not sure about you, but I have my phone practically glued to my hand nearly every day. I am always on the internet, sorting through emails, or on the phone speaking to people, so to not have any contact with the outside world was liberating.

I found the first day or two a bit odd and you spend your time wondering what everyone back at home is up to. But then a sense of peace comes with it and you realise you can live in the moment and not worry about anything else. I really must remember that feeling now I’m back and the phone is buzzing constantly! I got back from Africa just over a week ago and the first few nights were full of strange dreams because I was still thinking I was in a tent with animals around me! My brain was all over the place and my African experience is certainly engrained in me forever. Having running water from a tap is something I will never take for granted again! I’ve been pretty busy since my return but I did make time to go to the hairdresser as my hair seemed to have turned into straw with the lack of attention it got in Africa. Zac my hairdresser at Artizan Hair in Bath is great. I never have to say anything to him, I just sit in the chair and he decides what colour or how to cut it. I trust him completely and so all I have to do it relax and get the magazine out!
