The home straight

Feb0320109:23 p.m.

3 months training done, 5 to go.  Not really the home straight, but I need to start thinking positively as getting up early in the morning is starting to get tough.  Greeting the morning alarm with a massive groan and "oh ****" is not the sign of a dedicated althlete.

Training took a back seat last week while I popped down to the Pyrenees for 5 days skiing - my first ever venture onto the slopes.  I managed to survive without breaking anything and whilst I wasn't exactly being mistaken for Franz Klammer, I managed to negotiate a few terrifying slopes in a semi upright position.

Took me a few days afterwards to recover, as I hadn't realised quite how knackering it would be, but this week I've got back into the training groove, and am feeling less intimidated by the thought of the half iron man.

Swam 2km this morning, my furthest distance so far, felt pretty good, not sure I could then sit on a bike for 3 hrs and then trot along on foot for 13 miles after that, but that's why I've got to start piling up the miles in the coming months.   Looking forward to the clocks changing and being able to cycle in to the office somedays.  Actually maybe "looking forward" is stretching the truth a bit!
