Saturday was my last training session before the challenge next week end. I got up early and headed out to the same place I did my last cycle ride. I had not decided what I was going to do when i set off but I knew it was going to be 10 miles at least.

It was 6.5 miles to the first tunnel which I managed quite easily. I was just jogging along at about 5mph for 14 minutes and then walking for 1 minute. I then decided to head on to the next tunnel which is another 2 miles further on. I reached there in 1hr 40mins. I then stopped for a very short break (for a wee) and headed back determined to go back quicker than I had got there.

I got to the first tunnel fine so at this stage I was at about 9.5 to 10 miles and felt OK. there were some niggles in the knees but nothing I could not handle. Then the pain in the left hip started. I first thought it was my groin but then I managed to pinpoint it to the hip. It was protesting over a 2.5hour pounding on hard tracks.

This dis slow me down considerably as I was only able to run for 5 minutes and then had to walk for a minute. With 2 miles to go i was struggling and then the cramps in the calf muscles began which put an end to the jogging. I managed to get home in 2 hours so in total it was roughly 17 miles in 3hr 40mins. Overall quite pleased

Since then I have not done much over the weekend and today I feel fine other than a sore throat. We have a bit of a bug going round the office so I hope it is just that and it will clear in a day or so.

We are off on Thursday afternoon down to Devon and the challenge kicks off on Friday morning. We have been given two team mates to join us. They are ladies which is going to be good in one way but bad when I need the toilet in the middle of no where and have to go, especially when the rules of the challenge say that we have to stay within 100 metres of each other at all times.

If anyone has sponsored us (see web link on the intro to the blog) thanks very much, if any wants to sponsor us please fell free. We are pretty close to our target of £1600 but any sponsorship is gratefully received.

Blog over and out - I will start again once I finsh the challenge next week
