VOAAC 52nd Boxing Day 5k

Dec26201112:16 p.m.

I don't know Aylesbury that well, but this race was dead easy to find. You could easily turn up literally last minute if you already had your number and weren't entry on the day. There was loads of free parking in the Car Park opposite the theatre... nice. Race HQ is in a big warm pub with plenty of loo roll :oP

The legs were a bit tight from Saturday's parkrun and tbh i didn't feel too clever getting up this morning or indeed too light on my feet shall we say. However there was a nice atmosphere about the place, so i was a bit more cheery by the time we headed to the start area. Once we were in the pen Chris & I bumped into the Globetrotting Man Mountain, Mark Travers. No suprise there, this close to home then,  i guess :o) Not too much waiting around until BANG! we were off. A short lap around the market square, which was quite crowded & slippy, what with the drizzle, and then off out the top of  the town to begin our 2 laps around Aylesbury. The course was interesting enough with a few ups and downs. Had to keep an eye on the slippy cobbles at various parts of the route but yeah pretty good. You loop through the market square a total of 5 times i think so it's also not bad for supporters... of which there were a fair few.

No suprises with tactics or anything interesting on that front at all lol. Splits were 6:43, 6:48 & 6:58. I pushed hard up the hill to the market square for the last time. You can't see the finish too clearly but you know it's close. Round the final corner to take another place finishing in e20:58.(Results now up apparently i did it in 20:16.... some mistake i think lol)

Mark was not far behind and then a bit later Chris came in, just in time for photo opportunity =)

Nice festive medal!

VOAAC 52nd Boxing Day 5k

Thanks to the Vale of Aylesbury Athletics Club for today's event... it really was enjoyable. It never broke the bank either at £6/£8, and entry on the day only £1 more! I would love to say i'll be back next year, so i will... i'll definitely be back next year! Who knows, maybe i'll have more luck dragging my lot out of their beds.... but probably not hehe
