In a moment of madness in July 2008 I entered the 2011 Marathon Des Sables.  MDS is a six day ultra race called by many the toughest footrace on ...

Into 2011...now I'm counting the weeks...

Jan08201112:21 p.m.

Happy New Year!

Well finally 2011....and now its just 12 weeks til I'll be running in the Marathon des Sables. I'm sure its going to pass in a flash and the nerves are really setting in now.

I had a bit too much of a break over Christmas. Far too much food and booze, not enough running and not enough sleep so I'm feeling pretty ropey coming back into training. But no time to mess around so tomorrow I'm off to Leatherhead to have a crack at the Tanners Winter 30. Its an LDWA event so thankfully it will be a reasonably slow field and I'm hoping to bimble along at the back with friend Tina. Tina is attempting to get into the 100 Marathon Club and like me hasn't done much over the break so hopefully we can coax each other round. The main build up event for me is Pilgrims Challenge which is a 66 mile two day event in early Feb. Other than that most of the training is going to have to be local so self motivation is going to be hugely important...hope I can find my ultra mojo!

I was toying with taking the big rucky round tomorrow but have decided that the 30 mile challenge will be enough this week. I have started training with the big pack and now need to start adding weight....but that's for next week! One tiny bird sized step at a time...

Here is hoping for a successful and injury free 2011 to all!
