Let the journey to The Mall begin

Jan05201010 p.m.

Ignorance is bliss in my case with the VLM being my first ever attempt at a marathon. I have to say that I am feeling excited and scared at the prospect.

Since my last posts back in Aug 09 I have continued running and even managed to show signs of improvement. I successfully completed the GNR including Hi Fiving Sting on the start line and managing a new PB (2:11) Smile. In October I took part in my works 10K event and another PB 52:44 and in December I took part in the Bedford Half Marathon and was very pleased to scrape in under the 2 hr mark by 3 secs, so another PB of 1:59:57Laughing.

I've also been running Cross Country for my club where I think some of my strength has come from but I have also found that I love running off road and the muddier the better. Check out the Duck Pond Waddle 9 Miler in Worthing, Sussex - great race and great fun.

Now to my VLM journey. I was rejected in the ballot but lucky enough to get a place through my club. The bribery worked!! I've been keeping things ticking over until the magical 4th of January when The Schedule beings.

So 2 days in...

Day 1 - ran with Deano in St James and Hyde Parks and around the Serpentine. Lovely sunny day but freezing cold. 5 miles at 8.50 pace. Off to a good start.

Day 2 - 6 miles - easy start and faster finish was on the cards. Unable to get to club due to a friend in need. There are some things and times when there are more important things to running and the schedule so its now pencilled in for tomorrow snow permitting or I might end up hitting the treadmill.

As I said at the beginning, ignorance is bliss. I am really looking forward to challenging myself to the training and getting to The Mall in one piece. I'm also looking forward to sharing the experience with you fellow bloggers.

Be safe out on those snowy streets,

BS:-)

  • simonedumergue 'Good luck with the training! I did my very first marathon at FLM last year to celebrate my 40th (February) so I can relate to that particular goal. It was meant to be a 'once in a lifetime' experience but it was so incredible and I loved it so so so much that I am back for a second bite with a ballot place. Enjoy the journey :-)' added 6th Jan 2010
