Recovery run at Race For Life

May0320098:09 p.m.

Having had a trip to the podiatrist this week I don't feel so bad about my crappy time last week! Basically to cut a long story short I have collapsed arches and even though I have correctly fitted trainers it still is a slight problem and my toes end up rubbing together. Whilst doing my training for the marathon I was slowly wearing away at the skin on the side of my little toe - and the marathon was the final straw! I have exposed the nerves!!! OUCH!!!!! I had no hope from the start really but now I know what the problem is I can rectify it.  Back to the podiatrist on Friday for some custom made inner soles for my trainers and a pair for my work boots.  Hopefully that will improve things in the long term.

In the meantime my toe has to heal, but I explained to the chap that I was entered into the Race for life 5k and needed to run! He padded it out and gave me all sorts of gismos to help relieve the pain and you know what, it was kind of ok today!  Was sore but managed to get round in 30mins.  Felt most weird putting on running things again and felt so guilty for not running sooner!

However, I am not allowed to run now until the toe is totally better as I will just make it worse, so swimming etc etc for me for a while.

Race for life was great - Suzanne was there (Runner 23257) with her 7 year old daughter and they got round in 39 mins! What a fantastic run for them!

My daughter got involved too - she led the runners to the start and held the finish tape for the winner (18 mins - madness!) and then dished out all the medals too.  It was a good day but just not London!!

So - I am looking forward to getting back to running, improving my time, losing a couple of stone too (now that I don't have to eat lots of carbs!!) and keeping in touch with all of you on here!

I hope you are all recovering well, and thank you all SO much for all your kind words last week - means a lot to me xx

  • kraftykat 'Well done on the Race for Life. And now you know what's causing the problem with your toe which must be a relief. At least once it's healed up you can get going again. And stop feeling guilty about not getting out running sooner - I've still not been out yet! Just enjoying my recovery!!!! Hope the toe gets better soon and in the meantime, enjoy the swimming :)' added 4th May 2009
