Success From Setbacks.

Thats the name of a cheesy self help book i read once. But its quite apt for this week. If you havent noticed this week, I have been missing in action or should that be out of action! Off I tootled to manchester after the 10 miler on weds, and I was fine! If not a bit rushed with work deadlines and what not. I didnt make it to Petes Club session because I was working late and I decided against treadmill at hotel because it was nearly 9pm and I was starving.
So instead I too advantage of having a jacuzzi bath in my room and had a long luxerious soak. Where I thought (maybe it was the glass of wine with dinner) that it was a good idea to hold my shins in the stream of bubbles to get a massage. The next day what do u know, my shins have a pair of Ben Nevis's on them! I didn't put two and two together until much later, when I realised it must have been the jacuzzi! ANywhoo, I took a whole week off, generally feeling sorry for myself and wondering how on earth im going to possibly get enough training in. Whilst eating and drinking what I like and doing the bare minimum with work cos i felt so fed up and then begining to wonder whether I want to run the marathon at all. And wouldnt it be easier to be a complete overweight lush instead? Of course, my conscience wont allow me to follow the latter path, so off I went tonight to test the waters.
I did a meager 4 miles in just under 10 minute miles and felt ok. Shins felt fine and the Ben Nevis's have gone down but funnily enough everything else hurt! In particular my calves. I could have done another lap, had I been forced, which is just as well, as it is meant to be 1hour40 on my schedule for wednesdays! And Im supposed to be doing a 21 mile canal run this weekend. However, Im going to see how the shins fare on the morrow and go to running club. Followed by 2 days rest before a long one on Sunday. Actually, a canal path might be kinder on my legs! So we shall see.
I promise to catch up on all your blogs very soon. I just couldnt bare to read about all you fit and fantastic people when I was all down and out!
Run: 4 miles (crazy mileage! just under 40 mins) plus overall weights, abz and press ups for maintence purposes.

Dim 'Ah but if you read everyone's blogs you might see that some others have been stuggling too. I think when we're having a tough time we think that we're the only ones. The fact that a mentalist can struggle at times too makes me feel so much better, so thanks for that. ;-)' added 11th Mar 2009

RuddysMarathonEffort 'I had noticed you were missing, glad its nothing too serious and your up and about again. I hav'nt run properly for nearly 6 months now, with probably at least another 6 in front of me till I do. Thats when your allowed a bit of self pity! I had my ballot place this year and would love to be doing a tow path (well across Humber Bridge and back) 21 miler this weekend - but I am not, so enjoy it.' added 11th Mar 2009

Johnf 'I like the luxury of booking a hotel room with a jacuzzi in it. But picking up an injury in it is nothing but pretty bad luck. Hope it heals quick and the 21 miler goes well.' added 12th Mar 2009

onthefloor04 'the calves are protesting at not running I bet. I'd sort of considered deferring my london place too but I think in the end i'd regret it come race day. Stick with it, you have to run otherwise there will be nobody to tell me all about the luxury onn the green start (yep i'm still sore about being relegated from there)' added 12th Mar 2009
