    Against the tide....

Very appropriate at the moment I feel - struggling through on the odd jog each week, tonights was a slippery jog by the canal - very almost took a dive and thought I might need to swim back.

Major achievement for me this week was my swimming, literally against the tide, in sunny Torbay.  It was the Agatha Christie weekend, grand finale being a one mile sea swim.  Sea swimming (any distance) is new to me and not easy to practice for when you live a couple of hours from either coastline.  Still I like a challenge!!  So it was a weekend in Torbay for me,

Sunday was cloudy, and quite windy.  Sea was by no means rough, but should I say gently undulating (there was more tide than expected for time of year - typical!!)  I set off in the first wave and encountered major problems......  I discovered that my bottom half was more buoyant than ever (breastroke, wetsuits and seawater not a good blend).  My only option was to swim breaststroke arms with a kind of jogging leg motion (mainly to keep the legs under the surface).  Of course it took me forever - amazing how far you can swim and not go anywhere.  Still got the medal, ticked another one off - changed my mind about the channel and hope to be back dry land jogging soon.  Though I have seen a water jogging class at the pool so who knows.

    Just a quickie..

Missed my Sunday night blogging but did manage another Sunday aft jog, well sort of... its soooo tough, but I know it will get easier and even faster when I manage more than one measly jog a week!  Managed to swim last week too and just hoping that this gusty wind calms down a bit for my one miler in Torbay on Sunday - I can do without the waves thank you!!

Oh, seen a house I like, problem is its Hebden Bridge, yikes its a long way to the top o'those Craggs - not sure what it is but moving to be less rural, yet repeatedly drawn to houses on hills in the middle of nowhere - mad woman, but you all know that anyway Tongue out

Good running to all you out there and fingers crossed for the post the next few weeks.

    Where'd the weekend go?

Thanks for your messages - its great to be back.  Can't promise i'll do the daily blogging but I will try to catch up with your running adventures at least on a Sunday evening.  Well all good intentions for the week ahead and a great mojo boost!!

After my flying swimming, cycle, oh a jog back down that dreaded hill for my car last week - I managed a couple more swims, a long walk this morning, and then the RB guilt crept in, so a hasty 2 mile something, well almost three miles jog this afternoon.  It took forever, its sooooooo hard - added pounds don't help I guess but its a start.

Any swimmers out there will know the Great North Swim in Windermere was cancelled, pesky blue/green algae put paid to my weekend plans.  Still not to be outdone I've entered my first ever sea swim in Torbay - two weeks today - yikes a mile, potentially in wavy water - so swimming will be my forte for the next fortnight!   (Carmen, you have a lot to answer for!!)

Anyhow, I digressed........ hoping to schedule Bramham Reindeer Run (yep, soon be that time again!! 10k in Dec) and then the Blackpool 1/2 (snow permitting) in Feb - so might see some of you there.

Oh and five days into my September alcohol ban - can't be bad Laughing

    Long time no blog......

Well, well I have missed you lot.  Its some time since I last blogged earlier just before that remarkable day which is now a mere memory.  So much so, its taken me so long to put those trainers back on and head out the door and pound the tarmac again (yes, we do have tarmac now, a newly resurfaced country lane - should be great in the snow!!!)

Still looking to move house to somewhere flatter and BEFORE winter (fingers crossed as theres an offer on the table!)

Had a reasonably fit week, managed a three mile downhill run (my god!! however did I manage 26??); a couple of one mile swims in the local lido - i've managed to keep to my once a month outdoor swim for 2010 so far and have just been planning a November swim - yippee that'll be another challenge to be ticked off. Oh, and I went out cycling - not fit enough for triathlon - maybe that'll be for 2011?!

Current challenge, a toughy........ an alcohol free September - so far so good, lol.

Hope you're all training well and I do intend to catch up with some of your blogs soon, not sure whether many still contribute to VLM 2010 section?? Or how many are now blogging on 2011 - can't be long now before the 2011 entries are announced, and not sure why but yes I'll be watching for the letterbox drop again (more from fear I think!!)

Fueterventurian sunshine........... somehow addled my brain.....

and I convinced my very good cousin to enter me for next year's ballot as I was lounging on a beach or in the ocean somewhere (I can't tell you what my password was, very apt, maybe not so complimentary) - anyway we'll see I'm entered now may well be back again in 2011.

I know I said "never again", but then how many others did too - a week of chillaxin and pondering on the ups and downs of jogging (and there are lots of them in this ere Yorkshire!!) and I can't wait to wear those trainers again (still with red go faster laces) and hit the road.

Hope you're all suitably recovered and back on track.
