Jogging in the rain

Feb08201010:22 a.m.

Saturday morning's run was cold but very pleasant.  I decided to swap my Saturday morning gym session for a run and save myself £2.50 in the process.  I was pleased with my efforts.  This morning was the scheduled Monday run and get this...it was raining.  Ok perhaps that gives the wrong impression it was in fact very cold, windy with fine sleet but I'm pleased with myself because I didn't whimp out.  I had the Chris Moyles breakfast show for company and the time just flew.  I get a few funny looks from the people heading to the railway station to get to work when I jog past smiling or even worse trying to catch my breath with laughing at the breakfast show.

There was an alarming aritcle in our local paper a few weeks ago about a woman that was mugged just round the corner from where we live.  She was mugged at 10am on a road that I use regularly for my running route.  Actually it's a road that I walk down to get to the gym or the railway station or the post office.  I felt angry for this poor woman that was mugged and angry that someone could make me feel unsafe while walking along a road I've used my whole life.  I'm determined not to be scared off of using this road for my early morning runs, my family laughingly said that I would be able to run away if anyone tried anything.

Am I the only person that doesn't get Twitter, Facebook and all those other social networking sites?  Maybe it's something to do with my age I have trouble understanding text messages if they contain too many abbreviations.  A friend invited me to join Facebook in the summer via email.  I joined, I was confused.  I had a list of people down the side of the page when I logged in that I didn't know and had no idea how they had got onto my list of 'friends'.  I was invited to some social online things which I had no inkingly what they were about and there'd be messages when I logged on that made no sense to me and were irrelevant.  So after a month of being confused I deleted my membership.  Now it turns out that our gym has a Facebook page or membership whatever it's called.  How can a gym be on Facebook?  I really don't get it.  Famous people are always talking about their Twitter pages and asking people to follow them.  I thought I'd have a look to see what Twitter and tweets are all about...I didn't understand that either.  I think I'll stick to my blog and actually talking to people rather than leaving cyrptic messages in cyberspace.

  • emmteeyess 'I certainly don't do twitter or Facebook, anf have no intention of trying them - i've never even looked at a Facebook page, but nothing anyone has said about it has tempted me. Too big, too impersonal, too 'trendy' and too unnecessary by the sounds of it. But realbuzz feels 'real' and dedicated. I'll stick with that. I guess you need to walk or run with confidence and not look like a victim, to keep muggers at bay - easier for me as a guy I suppose. Don't be put off - it's still a very small percentage of people that it happens to. cheers, MTS' added 8th Feb 2010
