I went on this run with "BiGPoPPa" and hes already wrote a very good blog entry about it..So I will be lazy and let you read his :) Plus I will add a little bit

Not  able to do a link here.....so here's his blog page address http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/BiGPoPPa/bigpoppa-s-gonna-work-it-out/posts/inaugral-southport-mad-dog-10k-06-02-11/

Me and Andy at the start

    Plus a little extra

I had butterflies going down to the race and a lot of neck pain which was making me worried... I had a little foreboding about the day now....Didn't really want to fail and all that, but I knew once the race started I would be relaxed...always am when I run.....

One thing "BigPoPPa" under plays in his blog is the wind(gales) coming in off the sea....running along the sea coast for the first 5k was like running up hill totally exposed to the gales. I was picking out people in front of me trying to get a wind break from them....but really it was no help....anyway they dropped me :).

I had two targets first to get round and under 55minutes, 2nd was do it under 50minutes which  really I wanted....My 5k PB for Heaton "Park Run" is 23:28 I know its known as a hard 5k because its hilly, so if I could match/beat that time over the first 5k I would have a chance of beating 50mins when I would do a slower back 5k...anyway that seemed a sound plan/theory

WIND!!!......first 5k 25:52!!!! Tongue out...that’s how strong the wind was, nearly 2.30mins over what I was aiming for :(..It was not looking good and I was feeling knackered already....just get round, just get round was going through my mind....next 5k was through the town and out of the wind , but a little wind on the back :), not as strong sadly on the back as it was on the front, but the building blocked out alot now.

I felt strong again before 6k my energy seemed to return and I started chasing down people that had dropped me over the first 5k. I knew because it was flat that I still had an outside chance of beating 50mins .....thankfully there was plenty of people that had dropped me earlier that I could aim for throughout the next 5k so I did and I was moving well all the way to the finish.....Andy was waiting for me at the end cheering me on so had to put on a sprint/show at the end :).....Time? 49:15!! PB  a back 5k of 23:23 another PB really....well chuffed.......well worth all them hard training days.

Also it's a time I know now that I can beat if it's not gale force on the day.

A big thank you for Andy/Clare for all their help...and for giving me a fun filled weekend cheers guys

Until the next exciting entry take care ;)

    p.s

This was wrote on the back of the free T-shirt

Legend has it that if you go down to ye olde South Port on the North West coast on a certain February morn, you will see the legendary knights of the olde Round Table as they release the fabled Mad Dogs on their ritual journey. These tortured creatures burst through the morning mist to trace their mythical route, according to the prophecy of their ancestors. 10,000 metres, not a metre more not a metre less such is their quest. These demented yet determined souls can be heard screaming and yelling on their way to their final destination. It is said that once you have heard the sounds of the pavements punishing their feet, it will haunt you forever. Many who have heard and watched have themselves become Mad Dogs in future. These Mad Dogs can only be released from their punishment once they return to the place from whence they came. If you are lucky, you will see the immense joy on their faces, as they cross the finishing line at their starting point. They then disappear silently through the mist and all is calm once more, as though it never happened.

    Never again, until next year!

I am a Mad Dog survivor”
