10k, thats not too far, right? Just over 6 miles.... oh....

Feb02201212:53 p.m.

So, I'm going to need a plan! and i have been thinking about this. Lets start with a bit of background. This year I turn 40 and the last time I did any exercise was when i was at university. Going to the Gym bores me and in truth, with two young kids, I can't afford a gym membership that I know I will never use.

I am in reasonable shape... who am i kidding. Ok so I'm not overweight (ok, maybe a little bit!) but i could get out of breath running a bath! Lets be honest, taking the bike to Centre Parks with the kids twice a year doesn't really count as exercise! Here's the plan and I have used the KISS principle here...

I have created a route round my local park. It comes out at about 4.5k so all i have got to do is get round it twice and i know I can do that. Well I know I could walk it anyway. This weekend, I plan to get round it once.  Mostly I'm going to walk, but if I break in to a jog once or twice then that will be good! Then I'm going to gradually build up the pace. Once I can comfortably jog most of the way round i will build up the distance... And that is it

Just over 16 weeks to go.... I can do this!

  • claireenee 'Sounds like a plan to me! Build up the distance slowly & you'll be fine. And once you get used to running you'll probably find the pace improves too. Maybe keep a 'running diary' and record your distance/time/how you felt. Always gives me a boost to see how far I've come. Good luck!' added 2nd Feb 2012
