A chilly training session

Feb0420125:19 p.m.

We've had some light snow in the West Country today, but nothing settling. One of my old leg fractures has been playing up for a couple of days, curtailing exercise, but I decided to take advantage of a lull in the precipitation to get out in the race chair this afternoon. The trouble with training when it's this cold (1C today) is that in order to not die you need lots of layers, yet working hard in lots of layers, regardless of how much technology had gone into their design, means sweating like a Turkish Wrestler in a Sauna. At about eight miles in the light drizzle turned to light rain, and pushing on the race chair rims turned into a challenge with the gloves slipping on every turn. Sweating heavily in light rain also meant getting wet from the inside out at the same time as the outside in.

An hour and a hot chocolate later, and I'm still not warmed up. But 13.2 miles, even though it took the best part of 90 minutes, was a decent effort today.
