Sunday was my first every full marathon - Shakespeare Marathon. The wetather forecast was for heavy showers and temperatures around 14c. In true Michael Fish style it ended up as glorious sunshine and around 22c. The course is two laps of Stratford with undulations and one hill, which is done twice. There is no shade and towards the end of the run the temperature and sun got to me and around 23 mile point I was struggling, I was wearing a hat but what I needed was an umbrella.
I made it to the end and crossed the finishing line in 4hr 00 mins and 25 seconds. I could not run any quicker over the last couple of miles and was gutted that I did not go under 4 hrs. What this means is that I need to find an Autumn marathon to set the record straight.

klebe 'Saw the hammock blog pic and thought 'I recognise that'. Welcome back, or have you been lurking in one of the other forums and I've missed you? Great time for a marathon especially in warm conditions. I'm sure that 25 seconds will come off without any problem later in the year. Have you entered the ballot for the FLM next year and are you up for another GNR this year. Happy training - all the best - Mike' added 29th Apr 2008
