Why is my weight not dropping?
Jul22201011 p.m.
Hi all - been to the gym for a couple of hours twice this week. On each visit I have done half and half aerobic and weights. And I have been exercising in this way about 4 times a week for 3 weeks now.
I have also been dieting - not following a plan but eating lots of fruit during the day and a healthy meal in the evening. I have cut out virtually all fatty foods and am not eating any bread type products. My guilty vice is a cup of tea with one sugar and skimmed milk.
For the first week or so I was losing weight, but now I am just stuck. I think I am changing shape and a couple of people have said I look slimmer - but the scales just don't show any weight loss. I show as overweight on those weight/height tables so I really feel I should be losing weight with the exercise and eating adjustments.
So does anyone have any idea why I'm not losing anything?
Thanks

chloe112 'Hi Donna well done with the exercising, it sounds like you are doing A LOT!!! with regard to the diet and not losing weight, the only thing i can think off is your not eating enough to cover your daily calorie usage plus all the exercise your doing. Most people think if they eat minimally and exercise loads the weight will fall off, this is not neccesarily true as i have found out in the past. Your body panics and holds onto everything you do eat and the fat you already have, its a case of getting a sensible balance between eating and exercise and i wish you luck! On the other hand (and the preferred option) is muscle weighs more than fat :-)' added 23rd Jul 2010

edwards_pk 'All answered by chloe112, spot on, remember if you doing weights, even light, you will initially gain some muscle increase, which as stated weighs more then fat, overtime you will gain better muscle shape but you will need to have the right diet to burn that unwanted body fat, loads of info unline which will help.' added 23rd Jul 2010

kizzi10000 'Welcome back! Wondered who was writing the blog I didn't recognise. Well done getting back into the swing of things. Are you drinking enough? It could be water retention if you're not flushing it out by drinking plenty. I owuldn't put too much on what the scales say. I've lost 5.5 st and dropped from a 22/24 to a 12/14, but am still up to 4.5st overweight according to the charts. I have a weight in mind, but it all depends on what I look like. Keep track of inches as well as weight loss. Good luck with it' added 23rd Jul 2010

Hat 'Hi Donna, good to have you back blogging! The reason you're not losing weight...or weren't - you wrote this blog last week, so things might have started moving by now? Anyway, there are so many reason why weight doesn't shift when you think it should - be patient, if you're watching what you eat (sugar tends to be the big no-no, you do need some fat...but you probably know that..) and upping the exercise then the weight will come off. But it can be soooo frustrating!! Keep at it and I hope it's started to shift by now.' added 26th Jul 2010

DonnaD 'Thanks everyone - no real shift in weight yet but yesterday I wore a pair of trousers that wouldn't go near me about 4 weeks ago so clearly something is happening!! I am gonna start to follow a proper diet plan for the next 3 weeks up to my holiday.' added 26th Jul 2010

kraftykat 'Welcome back to the blogging Donna!! Sounds like you are trying really hard with your dieting. It is just sooooo hard isn't it. I desperately needed to do something and sort myself out and I've lost 2.5 stone. I just could not do it on my own, however much I tried all my previous diets. It just wouldn't shift. I went to weight--tchers and that's how I've done it. I know you have to pay weekly, but for me, it did the trick and was worth it. I'm sure if you stick at it and keep up with your exercising it will come off. Stick at it!' added 5th Aug 2010
