Pre-Comrades Bash
Hey keith don't be misled that the down is easier than the up.... The up run you run up over Cowies, Fields and Bothas hills on the first half of the race on the down they are on the last half, they are tough ups on the up run but sharp downs on the down run hurting your legs like hell when you already have 60 odd km's on them, my better times are on the up run although I do prefer to run down a hill than up one. But I'll be happy to give you any pointers you may want for next year. Annie I'm sure you will get there one day, it's all about endurance not speed.
We had our running club pre-comrades function on Saturday. We really are spoilt by our club, they had a few sports sponsored tents offering shoes and other running stuff. We had a guest speaker who ran comrades back in the 1940's had some funny stories to tell. We all got a long sleeve shirt in our running club colours which will come in handy for winter running. They gave us all two goody bags filled with all sorts of stuff, from toothpaste to socks, shower gel, pens, peaks, lip ice, drinks bottles, bottled water, deodorant, moisturiser and vouchers for a health spa. How lucky are we? We also had Spit BBQ food with veg and a bean salad. Malva pudding for dessert. The food cost R30 a head and the shirt was subsidised by a sponsor so it cost just R80. The girls and I sat drinking winein the sunshine, the husbands decided to ditch us and went off to Maureens place to watch the rugby we had to hang around for a club group photo in our nice shirts. After that we also joined the guys at Maureens place, they ordered pizza so yet again it was a wine filled social event.
Maureen is such a sweetheart and gave us all a bling bling initial (E for me) key chain for luck.
I ran just a 6k on Tuesday last week another 6k on Thursday, then just a 5k on the treadmill saturday morning now nothing until the big day.... Just have to sit it out all week the nerves are bugging me but it is nervous anticipation...... Yikes.........
Washed my takkies yesterday and put on my champion chip so I don't leave it at home.... Had my hair done just in case I'm on the telly !!!
