Walking easy.... Bah !!!
Jul23200812:28 p.m.
I've decided I need to find new training friends there is something wrong with this lot ... very wrong in the head. E-mail chat decided we would walk at the running club last night to get some practice in for Sunday. Jacqui was going to be late and the others were there early so off we went. Belinda is a competitive walker as well as a runner, she recently represented Gauteng North in the inter-provincial championships down in Cape and came second in a 30km walking race. So she told us all she will walk with us.... they decided to power walk, which I've been doing on the treadmill, anyhow my heels kept hurting and I battled to keep up with the girls so every now and then I did a little jog to catch them. Belinda instructed us we were going to add in the hill climb up to the Weather station... gosh... then we did the rest of the 8k route making the walk around 9k's we did this in 1h10 which was pretty good going. When I got home I took off the socks I had a blister on each heel? Not even Comrades does that to me..... Bah.... now I'm not sure if I should walk in my trail shoes Sunday, we did a lot of walking and climbing at Rhodes and I didn't blister then...... hummmmm ... I hope it's just that my feet are not used to the pounding of heel strike when walking and I have done a bit lately with the treadmill and then on the road.
We did mange to all have a drink after the walk. On Sunday because the car park at this race is a nighmare have decided to have a picnic aftwerwards to let the traffic leave. Champagne is the main ingredient... cheese and biscuits, pate french bread crisps and muffins... I better get walking fast to make some space for the picnic....
off to gym tonight.
Keep up the good work ladies, i couldn't play tennis for 3 hours so jacqui you must have some stamina. Kim you'll get there ...
We are coimg out of winter it is not so chilly in the morning any more and getting up to a mild 18-19 during the day.
I'm an Aunt again, number 10 arrived yesterday in Liverpool 9lb5ozs bouncing baby boy James Robert... It's going to cost me a fortune in Christmas prezzies this year, I leave December 13th for a 3 week family visit......
Cheers

SuperCaz 'I get more blisters walking than I do running, but I put it down to inapproriate footwear. Running shoes are not ideal for walking in, and I don't own any other sensible shoes.' added 23rd Jul 2008

seeannierun 'Having just completed a 100km non-stop walk for charidee; I recommend trainers (lekker takkies, ek se) and strapping your heels with zinc oxide tape before you head off. Sorted. Annie x' added 23rd Jul 2008

kizzi10000 'I find running easier than walking (felt miles better after run/walking the Edinburgh marathon compared to walking FLM the previous year), so good luck whatever you decide. Thanks for the tips about Comrades :-). I WILL get there, and I WILL get to the finish before the gun. Even if it's only 30secs lol.' added 23rd Jul 2008
