Ready, Steady, Slow.... by Ells_Bells

About

Right, where to start?  I started running (actually, best not exagerate - it was more a jog come stumble at the time) as a way of keeping fit now...

Upping the miles, and an impending holiday

Jul2920101 p.m.

Hello all!  Hope you are well.

I have been trying to up the miles on my running, in preperation for my 10 mile and half races in September.  With this in mind went out on a 5 mile run on Thursday and Saturday, and then did 8 miles on Sunday.  5 mile runs went well, plan said to do it slowly, which I tried, but it had been uploaded to the garmin as a workout and I hadn't checked the pace setting.  Turned out slow on my plan means between 10min 30 I think, and 11 min something.  I just felt like I was walking, so just ran at a pace I felt comfortable with.  Unfortunately the garmin was set to beep when I went too fast, which was the entire run. Grrrr.  I now know that it beeps every 20 seconds, and without an ipod that got rather irritating!  Saturday I reset it to a more appropriate pace.

The run on Sunday I did with my eldest daughter on her bike.  It was a really hot day, but I felt really fresh and good, right up to the point where she rode into me in order to avoid a pot hole!  To add insult to injury she got cross with me about it, for being in the way!  I was still spluttering slightly over this, when 30 seconds later she did it again, and got her brake caught in my shorts.  When I protested she got in a strop and rode off for a mile whilst I wished I'd bought my ipod!  Lol - 11 year old girls, who'd 'ave 'em?!  Fortunately she realised she was being a little silly and apologised, I reminded her of what her brakes are for, and it was ok.  8 miles done in 1 hour 18, nice and steady.

Tuesday saw me doing Hill reps again, and tonight I'm due for a 5 miler, then another 5 miles on Sat and 10 on Sunday.  However, I have a 5 mile race on Sunday, so may skip Saturday's session and do 10 tonight instead.  Hmmmm......

After all the talk re shoes I've done a bit more reading on it.  I'm not so worried now, especially as if I concentrate on getting a nice lift when my foot comes back (towards my bum) then just let if fall forward naturally it doesn't seem to do it so badly.  However, I have worked out that I've done at least 450 miles in these trainers, so I think it's time for a new pair :o)  Going to try and find some where with a gait analysis machine this time.

I'm off down to Cornwall next week, so hoping to get some good hill running in!

Cheers,

Ells - trying to plan a nice 10 mile route for this evening.

  • Ells_Bells '5 Mile race was awful!! I forgot that I gave blood Friday night, which always takes it out of me. I was fine for 2 miles then just ran out of energy completely. I got stich and just generally felt rough as the proverbial bager's rear end. Final time - 43 mins 32 seconds - I'll know for next time.' added 13th Sep 2010
