One week today...2 degrees & snow!?

Apr1820101:56 a.m.

So i'm up super-early practising my 'marathon prep' as per my RW training schedule! One lucozade sport & a hydration tab thingy down and i'm about to move onto porridge... Whilst sitting with my legs elevated and an ice pack on my newly slightly dodgy knees.  I did my 10 mile taper run fine last saturday but knees have been sore since and i did just a couple of 3 milers this week after work which i found pretty awful.  So trying to ignore the panic i'm feeling and just rest, ice & take lots of ibuprofen.  Planning to try a 10k this morning as i do think i'm far better in the mornings, but if it hurts i figure i'll just head to the gym for some cross-training instead.  I'd imagine rest is more important than a "little" 10k at the moment?  I do think my 3 milers (and aborted 3 miler yesterday) are party psychological - i've been doing them at the end of the day and i think i've just been generally knackered.  Oh well, what will be will be!  I plan on some pretty serious pain killers on the day itself...

Been looking at the weather forecast... Looks like we're in for a SERIOUS cold snap!  Seems to suggest it will feel about 2 degrees and possibly snowy showers at night!??!  Hmmm, back to the 'winter kit' i guess.

.....Hmmm... since writing the above having checked the weather last night, it now seems to say something COMPLETELY different... a 'normal' 12 degrees and cloudy.  Sounds a bit more like it - oh well - we shall see! As long as it is not boiling hot i'll be happy...

Happy final week everyone x

  • EmilieT 'Hey Paul, everything i've read seems to suggest that so long as you rest sufficiently and don't push yourself over these last days, it should recover and you'll be fine. Have you seen a physio? that might be a plan in case its linked to tight muscles or something? It is SO annoying when you've never had knee pain before though - i really sympathise. I think ultimately if you've never run a marathon before then these kind of pains are pretty normal - and there is always ibuprofen & paracetamol for the day itself! On the plus side - you've done 20 miles which is AMAZING! I only made it to 18.2 on my longest so hoping for the best! x' added 18th Apr 2010

  • Way_Too_Slow 'I've been checking different forecasts until I find one that I like! They are still all over the place changing every few hours, so I think we'll have to wait a few more days yet before having any reliable idea about what is in store. Look after your knee. If it isn't 100% don't run on it again till next weekend. Rest is more important than running at this stage. Getting yourself ti the start line fit and healthy is the important thing.' added 18th Apr 2010
