We've come so far...and we've reached so high...

And we've looked each L...S...R... in the eye. But there's still three weeks, and we still need more...
Ahhh, when all else fails, you can rely on Take That for inspirational words.
So, in theory the WORST IS OVER in terms of the training?! I 'peaked' with an 18.2 miler yesterday in 3 hrs 27 mins (with last mile UPHILL - bonus points). I found it hard. Very hard. Despite being fuelled by Percy Pigs. But i'm relying on the fact that the beginners training plans are not lying to me and that I really have done enough to get me round the extra 8 miles on the day itself. An extra 8 miles... Sheeesh.
I'm trying to work out whether I'll actually miss my epic runs along the banks of the Thames when all this is over!? I guess there is still the small matter of the taper 10 miler this weekend but that seems like a short stroll compared to 18 miles. Wow, it does make you realise how far you've come when 6 miles is now considered a warm up...
I never, every thought I'd reach this stage - I just hope i've done enough to get me round on the day itself!
LESS THAN THREE WEEKS TO GO!!! YIKES x

glen_b 'I am not an expert and have never done this before, but I guess the theory works something along the lines of managing to do 18 miles whilst tired from all of the training, and then you rest the body, conserve the energy, carb yourself to the limit for the final few days, and all of that rest, carb loading, adrenalin and atmosphere takes care of the remaining 8 miles. You have had a very good training program, now make sure you follow it for the final few weeks!!' added 6th Apr 2010

Way_Too_Slow 'Don't think of it as an extra 8 miles, think of it as a 3 miler (you've done loads of them), followed by another 3 (easy peasy) and a final 2 miles (2 miles? That's hardly worth getting changed for!). All of a sudden you will be on The Mall and sprinting for the line in a bubble of noise and emotion Yes the worst is over, but tapering isn't easy. The temptation is there for "just one more run", then you go through the "I've forgotten how to run" stage!! Oh the joys of marathon training!!' added 6th Apr 2010

edwards_pk 'Well dongetting through those LSR's trouble free, battery re-charging time now, just as important as those LSR's. I'm sure that you will be fine with the remaining distance. I only managed to get to 16 miles before the big day last year due to an injury, the remaining 10 on the day flew by, pace yourself & you will be fine. As way to slow has said a good way to complete the distance is to break the 26 miles down in your mind, the crowd will push you through the last 3 miles.' added 6th Apr 2010
