Lacing up again

Mar1420098:37 p.m.

Those 5 days went by fast and look at that, I’m back in my running shoes again. It’s a pretty easy week and I’ll stick with the plan of running every other day although I ran last night and today again. This afternoon was a little tempo that I used as a rust buster to get the legs moving again. I went along with Kenny and Dodu (we call him Dodu cause he’s a bit on the heavy side for a miler – especially a  miler that runs 4:08) and we started off with a 20 min jog then 3K (9:47) and 2K (6:11) with another 15min jog. It felt pretty easy but what was the most satisfying in that run was to see the sun and to wear SHORTS outside!

I also spend most of my free time in the last 48hrs watching the online videos of the CIS track championships ( www.trackinthecity.com ). Great online feed by the guys from UofT I have to say – thanks guys! However it was very much ups and downs for our team. Started off great with sprinters taking gold in the Men’s 60mH, 300m and Women’s 60mH. Then in the 3k, disaster struck. They started off at a pedestrian pace (3:07) over the first K. I swear, the guys were litterally walking but then the move came and oddly enough only Bagdhad reacted running the next 400m in 63sec. James and Alex obviously unready for such a bold move were left close to 40m back before they decided to pick up the pace. James clearly wasn’t feeling good and drop-out while Alex barely caught up to Bagdhad at the finish line. Times were far from great, 8:34 for the win by Kyle Boorsma from Guelph and Alex was the top Sherbrooke finisher in 5th at 8:43. The 1500m was not much better for our guys but you know, it happens.

It’s easy to say what they’re doing wrong while sitting behind the screen but for some reason it’s always a different game when you’re the one with the spikes on running the race. So that being said, good job guys and looking forward to a great outdoors season with you.
