MY STORY SO FAR..............

My name is Sue and I started running 2 and a half years ago, on a couch to 5K programme - and then just kept going!   My first race was the Adidas 5K womens challenge in Hyde park 2 years ago - and then I was persuaded to do a 10K race....and then a half marathon!

Last year, I lost my mum after she had a stroke.  I'm not new to the devastation that a stroke can inflict not only on the victim, but also people around - my dad suffered a massive stroke when in his early 60's and I was a teenager.  I answered a plea in our local paper to help at a new series of fund-raising runs organised by The Stroke Association and I decided that I'd set myself the challenge of running the London Marathon for the Stroke Association.  And so here I am, hoping to raise loads of money and run the race of my life.

LS RUNNING - PLEASE PASS!

Well, you know what its like, your're on a recovery phase in your interval session or doing your LSR and some super fast runner comes sailing past and you really feel the need to point out to them why you're running at a slow trot.  So some tee shirts with this on the back might come in handy.

So on to today's LSR. I don't know whether it was the banana and slice of toast for breakfast, or the jelly beans at 1hour 15 mins, or the lucozade gel and sports drink at just past the 2 hour point, but something made it easier.  When I say easier, I don't wish to imply that it was a walk in the park, because it wasn't.  My legs were tired, theres no doubt about it. But I didn't seem to hit that 'I really can't run one more step' fatigue that I've encountered before.  Part of the reason is I did my 'out and back' route which I know is 17 miles, so I don't have to keep looking at the Garmin.  I did put a little extra loop in which I thought would take me up to 18 miles, but I mis-calculate and ended up with 19 miles.  Average pace 10:15 m/m.  I'm happy with that!

Running club last night was so incredibly, mind numbingly freezing.  There was a cold wind and it was snowing - enough for the track to be covered in the hour we were there.  Actually it looked quite pretty under the floodlights, but it does get in the eyes and smudge the mascara.  Because of the weather, we warmed up while jogging round the track.  The session was 100m run; 300m walk; 200m run then 200 walk;  300 run 100 walk, then run 400. Then a 400m walk to recover and repeat twice more.  I was being timed.  First time through was 9:47 (still cold) then 9:40 and finally 9:37.  I've never done it in that time before, so I was quite pleased. Right enough blogging!  Off to the hairdressers now. xx

Oh wow - 19 miles run the morning after a hard track session. You are a super woman!!
The fuelling of LSRs makes such a difference to how well they go. Sounds like you might just have cracked it yesterday. Nice one :-)
And very wise to run before the hairdressers rather than the other way around!

Well done on running so far when you were tired to start off with, that's brilliant work! I wish I had one of those t-shirts too, they'd be handy on a Sunday morning.
