This weekend I took part in the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon and had another chance to run my favourite distance 13 miles
This was my first experience of running in a crowd (or just not on my own) and there was over 10,000 people so it was some crowd. It was also easily the hottest that I have run in so far by some distance although as you would expect Silverstone was quite windy.
Overall it was a really good day and great experience although I was gutted to discover when I got there I didn't have my earphones so I had to go the whole race without my music. As I still cannot find them I assume Millie has found a new hiding place and they are with my missing watch somewhere.
Anyway back to the race, Silverstone is almost mountainous compared to Mildenhall, despite no doubt actually being quite flat, so the slopes were good experience and a challenge and I also experienced people being in the way and randomly stopping in front of you and having to dodge flying water bottles. The worst part was learning to come to terms with being overtaken by people in fancy dress which did happen at one point!
I maintained a fairly steady pace throughout the race and completed the course in just under 2 hrs, I would have liked to be around 1:45 - 1:50 but I will settle for getting round and gaining some practise.
Thank you to Nigel at West Suffolk Leisurewear who printed my (nick)name on my running top and to everyone at Silverstone for the support and the regular Go On Fish shouts throughout the day, it really was just what I needed and meant for the majority of the run I had a smile on face
I was overjoyed as well to see my parents and Toby 3 times throughout the race and my highlight was being able to get a big high 5 from Toby after I had just crossed a horrible bridge around the 8 mile mark.
It was generally a good day and very exhausting, I am pleased for the experience but it has added to worry of how it can be humanly possible to go double this distance in only 6 weeks time.
