Frustrated and having doubts!

Have not updated for a while mainly out of shame!! Have had shin problems which has really slowed down my training, the pain is stil there but with regular stretching and sports massages I am getting through and it is improving gradually.
The thing is is that the VLM is coming into view extremely rapidly and with my hold ups in training I cannot even complete 10 miles at the mo, am running 3 times a week a speed session with my trainer, a long run and a moderate run but the long run is only up to 8.5 miles at the mo and I am slooooooooow.
Was at 10 miles at the turn of the year and looking ok but am now having massive dounts if I am going to be ready in time, anyone else the same??

Penkhull_Puffer 'I think we all go through the same thoughts to be honest. The key if you've missed training is to revise your goals. Change to a 'just get round' type programme, and maybe concentrate on just steady strength improving running without the speed work and specialist sessions. If you do speed work, you'll break your body down too much to increase your mileage from where its at. And you won't get that all important mileage confidence. ' added 3rd Mar 2010

philk 'Hi, I have only read your latest entry so don't know much about you. All I can say is don't worry about how long it will take, it's the taking part that makes it special. Believe me, I took 8 hours when I did it in 2007 but I enjoyed every single (painful) second of it, and you will too if you stop worrying about the time. My longest run before FLM was only a half marathon yet I finished, you can too if you want to. Never ever give up' added 3rd Mar 2010

zuzihutt 'I am exactly in the same boat. My longest run was ten miles, after then I had an inflamation in my hip, which stopped from running for two long weeks. I am visiting physio, and now I am running, and slowly increasing the mileage as well as time. I still don't want to admit it, but I got into terms, that my expected time is now only wishful thinking, rather than reality. I am running it though, just a bit slowly. Chin up and keep up! glen_b 'I would stop the speed sessions, they are putting extra strain onto your body, and just plod. After all, that is what 95% of us are planning to do on 25th April anyway, so just get the body doing that. If at any stage you feel up to it, just try and increase the LSR distance, you only need to do 26 miles once, but a couple of LSR of well over half marathon distance would be a bonus for confidence as much as anything. But get rest when not running.' added 3rd Mar 2010

ClareVR 'I know how you feel, I am still struggling with a leg injury and will find out from the doctor this morning what the prognosis is. My training has been really interrupted which is so frustrating as it was going so well, but as suggested I have just adapted to gd what I can (focusing on LSR's as they are the 'money miles') and still want to make the marathon to 'get round'. I am sure if you keep it up you will get there!' added 4th Mar 2010

Firefly123 'As above, don't stress about speed at all - just have a go at increasing that long run and I'm sure you'll be fine.' added 4th Mar 2010
