The fast and the furious......

Oct1420095:43 p.m.

The end of year marathon season is in full swing with races coming left, right and centre. I have seen in the Forums and Blogs that the realbuzz community were very active last weekend.

For those that ran a race, congratulations and I hope the cool weather helped. The blogs I read inspired me to put on my running shoe and hit the road. The main problem I faced was not the over-pronation (of my only foot) but, the change in weather. Where I live the good weather has finally finished and things are about to turn ugly!

I had to go through all my gear and get out the tights and gloves at the bottom of running wardrobe. The temperature drop is fine for now but I am not looking forward to the wind and rain picking up. The coming weather will freeze my toe nails off!

For those just starting out in running I suggest you read this article on running gear so that you can handle this change in weather! http://www.realbuzz.com/articles/the-right-clothing-for-runners/

Blast from the past week!

Chicago Marathon

Bank of America Chicago Marathon

I watched a very cold Bank of America Chicago Marathon on the internet and enjoyed viewing the ridiculously efficient Sammy Wanjiru run a new Course record (2:05:41). There was also a very entertaining female race where the World Marathon Major’s champion (Irina Mikitenko) was beaten by young gun Liliya Shobukhova.

The women’s race was good but not as dramatic as the 2007 Chicago Marathon finish. The sound is bad so I’ll explain that my friend Adriana Pirtea was on her way to winning her greatest athletic achievement when she failed to see Berhane Adere amongst a group of chasing men. The rest is history.......

Japan propose atomic bid!

Hiroshima and Nagasaki will explore the possibility of co-hosting the 2020 summer Olympic Games despite a negative response from Olympic officials. It would be the first time two cities have proposed to host the games. Only last week Tokyo lost to Rio de Janeiro in a bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

I felt so sorry for Adriana Pirtea who had the race won and was already high fiving the fans. I was standing next to her agent when this happened and meant she lost about $200,000. Ouch!

A big congratulatory shout out to all those who ran the Bank of America Chicago marathon, Royal Park’s Half Marathon and the Birmingham Half Marathon. Also good look to those finishing off their training for the Dublin and New York Marathon!
