Welcome to your new training calendar / Go Mo!

Jun10201112:24 p.m.

Hi everyone,

How are you liking the new website? I personally love it. The technical team have been working their little geeky socks off to produce an amazing site. Over the last few months I have had the easy job of reviewing the design and functionality of what we are now using. You cannot believe the level of detail that goes into a website, especially a website that covers so many different areas like realbuzz.com does. It is amazing how one small change has an intricate effect on something else so I'm surprised at how smoothly the new site was born. There were obviously some teething problems so thank you for bearing with us and thank you for your feedback and letting us know you were having difficulties. Without this we cannot fix it or make any enhancements. Today, I wanted to introduce you to the new training calendar that replaced 'stats and goals' and will hopefully be your new online training partner.

The training calendar is basically your online training diary where you can collect all your training in one place. Keeping a training diary is very important especially if you regularly aim to peak for specific events. Reviewing your training is...

  • A great motivator

Seeing how many miles you ran this week or how your sunday runs have progressed is a good feeling.

  • Allows you to learn from mistakes

Injuries and illness can happen randomly (my latest injury started when I slipped in the shower!) but, more often than not you can identify reasons why you suddenly picked up a cold virus or a sore achilles injury from looking at your training and learning from your mistake in the future!

So what is new with the realbuzz.com Training calendar?

  • Add your time and distance tp a workout and the site will automatically create an average pace for the workout.
  • Allocate a route or marker to your workout - You can also add a photo to your event or race if you are really keen!
  • Repeat or duplicate workout - If you do a similar route every week or you just want to duplicate a route you did last week, you can do this very easily. This will save you inputting the distance and title of the route again and again...
  • Add races or events - Plan races you are going to do in the future.
  • Add an injury - Keep track of injuries and treatment

Pace tools
We also have a brand new pace tools section that will tell you how fast you ran or what splits you need in an up and coming race.

Mo-tastic

Monday mornings are never good but last Monday was more disappointing than normal. I am cycling at the moment (injured) and the torrential rain put paid to my plans to cycle to realuzz HQ. The one thing I looked forward to on my hobble to the train station was the hope that I would see Mo Farah's big shinny smile peering back at me on the back pages. For those that might have missed it, Mo broke the European and British 10,000m record early Saturday morning in Eugene, Oregon. Mo ran a staggering 26mins 46 secs and broke the European record held by another Mo (Mohammed Mourhit) from Belgium by 6 seconds.

For the last few years most of you will have seen Mo's face on TV with a title of 'Olympic hopeful' displayed underneath. This run changes things and realistically puts him in medal contention in the hardest track race for Europeans (no European has won an Olympic medal since Italian Salvatore Antibo silver medal in Soul 1988). Mo's 42 second personal best annihilated Jon Brown's 1998 British record of 27mins 18secs, moved Mo to the top of this years rankings and most impressively puts him the 14th fastest athlete of all time!

If you have time you must watch the race (see the last 8mins above) because I was most impressed with Mo's patience against the strongest field available (excluding the injured Kenesia Bekele). Mo beat 2004 Olympic 10,000m medalist and half marathon world record holder Imane Merga , 2008 and 2011 World cross country champions Zersenay Tadese and Joseph Ebuya. I was also impressed with Mo's finish that is fast enough to put him in medal contention at this years World Championship's in Daegu. Of course this is just one race and lets not put a world championship medal round his neck just yet. A lot can happen from now until August 28th but without doubt Europe has a distance runner to celebrate in 2012.

Sadly this was missed amongst most of the press who much preferred to report on Ryan Giggs sleeping with yet another women (are we really shocked this time...) and England footballers who cannot be bothered to represent their country. This weekend the pride of Britain was on show and between them they probably got a paragraph. The Brownlee brothers beat the world's best at the Madrid Triathlon.

MO I salute you!

  • Footnote 'The training centre is a massive improvement and we have big plans for it in the future! How do you like the creating a blog now? I have noticed it much easier to add pictures and play around with things. Our next plan is to look at a mobile website and probably a realbuzz.com app for android and iphone. That way you can take me where ever you go!' added 10th Jun 2011
