When in Rome.....

Mar0120108:32 p.m.

This week’s Six Nations took me to Rome, and for the record I had no issues with transport or my own lateness on my return journey. The sun was shining and I reckon it must have got close to 70 degrees, so of course, I wasn't dressed for the summer sun, what with my thermal vest on under my wool coat. One of these days I will get my clothing right.

The thing is, every time I go to Rome in winter the weather is like that, shades on the head and bare arms on show for the locals. So I inevitably end up wishing I lived there or somewhere with winter sun, especially after the cold and depressing winter we have had. It just makes you feel so darn good to see the big yellow ball in the sky. In the Villa Borghese, where we filmed in the morning, couples wearing shorts were out jogging together. There were children running around without being encumbered in water-proofs and even the ice cream seller was doing good business.

So inspired by the great outdoors of Italy, on Sunday morning I rounded the family together and we set off for a walk with the dog, with every single one of us in a hood and the rain bouncing off the wellies. After ten minutes my children were cold and fed up with puddle jumping. So we came home had a big roast and the adults had a bottle of red wine – well you know, when in Rome and all that. Have a good week.

  • GoClo 'I am with you Gabby, I know if I lived somewhere warmer my health and wellbeing would be far better...Fact. I am just praying for a good summer this year. Did you get a chance to see any of Rome whilst you were there? I guess the schedule is pretty tight. ' added 2nd Mar 2010
